Herpes on the lips (cold sores on the lips)

Herpes is a viral disease in which crusted blisters with transparent contents appear on the skin and mucous membranes. The most common belief about this virus is that herpes is a cold sore on the lips. Which upsets everyone, but especially romantics in love, because they have to forget about kissing for a few days. However, there are other manifestations of herpes – in fact, such a “cold” can occur on any mucous membrane.

Herpes infection is transmitted through direct contact with the carrier, or through household items. In some cases, airborne transmission of the virus is possible. The herpes virus enters the body through the mucous membranes of the upper respiratory tract or through the genitals during sexual intercourse. Once in the blood and lymph, it spreads to other internal organs.

Since the herpes virus is embedded in cells at the gene level, once it is infected, it is no longer possible to get rid of it. This means that almost all people on the planet are carriers of it. And you too. Periodically, the herpes virus “wakes up”, passes from a passive state to an active one, and looks out into the light of day, usually in the form of a cold on the lips.

How to get rid of a cold sore lips?

It is impossible to cure herpes, you can only fight its manifestations. As soon as you notice that you have a cold sore on your lips, use a herpes ointment. The most common: Zovirax, Gerpferon, Acyclovir. The more often you lubricate the site of the sore, the better. On the one hand, the ointment relieves itching and pain, on the other hand, it promotes rapid tissue healing.

In addition to treating herpes on the lips with ointments, you can try traditional medicine – some of them are quite effective. First, you can smear the infected area with mint toothpaste. If you do this in the evening, before going to bed, during the night, the site of the lesion will heal with a crust and begin to heal faster. Another recipe: from time to time apply a cotton swab dipped in valocordin or aloe juice on the affected areas.

Remember that in no case should you squeeze or pick off the bubbles that make up the cold sore on your lips. By doing this, you will not only not speed up your recovery, but also harm yourself by opening access to infection.
