A stuffy nose interferes with sleeping, thinking and functioning, so there is no point in prolonging this condition and, apart from using pharmaceuticals, try home, natural methods!
It is said that a runny nose is very difficult to cure because it has to go away on its own. There is even a saying: “Heals a runny nose for a week, and untreated for 7 days.” Still, no one wants to deal with breathing problems, especially at night, or having trouble concentrating at work or school. An irreplaceable way to have a peaceful sleep with a runny nose are, of course, special drops and nasal sprays, which can be found in many forms in pharmacies. During the day, however, it is worth using home remedies that will help you get rid of this ailment.
- Parsley – it will be good for a stuffy nose thanks to the high content of vitamin C. It will be perfect when added to broth or sandwiches.
- Homemade chicken soup – effective especially in colds. It’s not a joke – “grandmother’s” broth can actually help with a runny nose, because it has warming and hydrating properties. Thanks to this, it will help the patient get back on his feet faster!
- Inhalations – irreplaceable for any type of runny nose, both those caused by infection and clogged sinuses. Lean with a towel over your head over a bowl of steaming water, to which you can add chamomile infusion or aromatic oils. One of the best is eucalyptus, which will clear a stuffy nose and make breathing easier.
- Garlic – Peel two medium sized cloves of garlic so as not to damage them. Then put them in each nostril and hold it like that for some time. Later, you can take them out for a while and then put them back in. This direct, somewhat surprising method involves inhaling garlic, which will quickly unclog your nose. In addition to applying it to the nose, it is also worth adding garlic to sandwiches, eating with honey or tomato. It is a plant with antibacterial properties, called a natural antibiotic, so it will help to stop the infection.
- Tea – of course, not so ordinary, but with the addition of elderberry or raspberry juice. Such an infusion has excellent hydrating and warming properties.
- Horseradish – one from a jar. It is best that it is fresh, not stale – according to some, smelling horseradish helps with a stuffy nose.
- Onion – another inhalation, this time with the addition of onion. We cut it finely, throw it into a pot, pour boiling water over it and, as with other inhalations, inhale it.
- Air humidification – with a wet towel placed on the radiator or a special humidifier. You can pour a few drops of essential oil into it, which will clear the night and disinfect the air in the room.
- Salt – poured into a linen bag, sewn and heated in the oven or microwave, applied several times a day to the forehead and cheeks.
- Hot baths – such longer, relaxing sessions in the bathtub have a good effect on the thinning of nasal discharge. Add mineral salts or aromatic oils to the water.
