Herbapect – composition

Herbapect is a herbal medicine that can be obtained from pharmacies without a prescription. It is available in bottles of 150 g and 200 ml.

The composition of Herbapect includes a unique composition of ingredients. These are thyme, primrose root tincture, and sulfogwaacol. This herbal syrup has expectorant properties. A single dose of the syrup is 5 ml of Herbapect, which contains:

  1. 498 mg of the liquid extract of Thymus vulgaris L., thyme herb in a ratio of 1 to 2. The extraction solvent used is ethanol 30%. (V / V), 25% ammonia water, 95% glycerol;
  2. 349 mg of Primula veris L. tincture extract (radix) root primrose in a proportion of 1 to 5. The solvent used is 70% ethanol extraction. (V / v);
  3. 87 mg sulfogwajakolu.

The excipient of Herbapect is a non-crystallising liquid sorbitol, i.e. E420. Importantly, the syrup does not contain sugar, so it can be used by people with diabetes.

Herbapect – action

The action of Herbapect syrup is related to the properties of plant extracts. Herbapect is an expectorant product used traditionally. It contains thyme herb extract and primrose root tincture. The chemical compound that supplements the action of the extract and tincture is sulfoquaiacol.

Herbapect – indications

The indication for the use of Herbapect syrup is the doctor’s statement:

  1. upper respiratory tract catarrh;
  2. tiring so-called “Dry cough”;
  3. difficult expectoration.

Herbapect – dosage

Herbapect dosing schedule largely depends on the age of the patient:

  1. Adults: 5 ml of Herbapect syrup 3 to 4 times a day, after a meal.
  2. Children over 4 years of age and adolescents up to 18 years of age: 2,5 ml of Herbapect syrup 3 to 4 times a day after a meal, not more often than every 4 hours.
  3. Children under 4 years of age: Herbapect syrup is not recommended for children under 4 years of age.

The maximum daily dose of Herbapect may be 20 ml of syrup and this amount should not be exceeded. In addition, the Herbapect syrup should not be used for a period longer than 7 days, and its dose should be measured using the measuring cup attached to the package.

In the event of taking a higher dose of Herbapect and the appearance of disturbing symptoms, consult a doctor and initiate symptomatic treatment.

Herbapect – contraindications to use

The contraindication to the use of Herbapect syrup is:

  1. hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any of the excipients listed in the leaflet;
  2. asthma;
  3. should not be used in children who have had acute laryngitis (croup).

Herbapect – warnings

Special warnings about excipients of Herbapect syrup

  1. Herbapect contains 6,4 – 9,0% (V / V) of ethanol.
  2. A dose of 2,5 ml of the syrup contains up to 189,4 mg of ethanol 96% (V / V), which is equivalent to 4,5 ml of beer and 1,9 ml of wine.
  3. A dose of 5 ml of Herbapect contains up to 378,8 mg of ethanol 96% (V / V), which is equivalent to 9,0 ml of beer and 3,8 ml of wine.
  4. The use of Herbapect is harmful for people suffering from alcoholism.
  5. The alcohol content should be taken into account in children and adolescents and in high-risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.
  6. Herbapect contains sorbitol, therefore it should not be used in patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance.
  7. The syrup does not contain sugar and can be used by diabetics.
  8. 5 ml of Herbapect contains 3,73 g of pure sorbitol, i.e. 0,373 of the aforementioned.
  9. A dose of 2,5 ml of the syrup contains 1,865 g of pure sorbitol, i.e. 0,1865 of the aforementioned
  10. It is not recommended for use in children under 4 years of age.

Herbapect – drug interactions

There are no data on the interaction of Herbapect syrup with other drugs. However, the doctor should be informed about the medications you are taking (now and recently) – including those without a prescription.

Herbapect – side effects

Herbapect side effects include:

  1. due to the thyme herb there is a possibility of an allergic reaction (anaphylactic shock, angioedema (Quincke’s edema)).
  2. gastrointestinal disorders: nausea, vomiting.
