Herb hyssop officinalis: planting and care in the open field
The useful herb hyssop multiplies by dividing the bush and seeds. Planting plots is simple, but growing from seeds requires special attention.
How to sow medicinal hyssop seeds
Hyssop has a strong spicy aroma and is a good honey plant. The plant is used in cooking and folk medicine. The grass blooms in the first half of summer and continues to bloom until October. The seeds ripen at the end of August, germinate well for 4 years.
In regions with a warm climate, hyssop seeds are sown in the garden in April. But in the middle lane, the plant is grown through seedlings. In the first half of March, seedling containers are filled with nutrient soil, shallow grooves are made and seeds are spread at a short distance. Crops are covered with foil and kept warm until germination. This takes 2-3 weeks.
When the seeds hatch, the film is removed. Seedlings require special care:
- the soil is watered regularly, but the seedlings are not poured;
- seedlings are fed with a solution of mineral fertilizers for flowering crops every 10 days;
- the film is removed gradually, since it is necessary to maintain high humidity;
- the plants are gradually hardened.
Seedlings are grown at a temperature of 20-22 ° C, but before planting in the ground, the temperature is lowered, the room is often ventilated, the containers are taken out to fresh air.
Planting hyssop outdoors and caring for the plant
Seedlings are planted in open ground when 5-6 true leaves are formed, but not earlier than the second half of May. In one place, the grass is grown for about 10 years, so the site is chosen in advance.
For planting hyssop, set aside a sunny area with well-drained soil and low groundwater. Wetlands and lowlands are not suitable for growing a medicinal plant. Seedlings are planted in an ordinary way. About 10 cm is left between the plants, and at least 25 cm between the rows.
The soil is prepared in the fall. Manure and mineral fertilizers are applied
Hyssop care is easy. Water the plant occasionally, as a rule, there is enough natural moisture. The soil under young plantings must be loosened and weeds removed. You should be careful with feeding, as the hyssop does not like this. In the nutrient soil, the grass grows poorly and does not bloom.
Special pruning is not done to the plant, the shoots are cut when they are needed for personal needs. After cutting, the hyssop recovers well, hibernates without shelter. If the shoots are used for medicinal purposes, then self-seeding is not allowed. From this, the beneficial properties become worse.
Don’t be afraid to grow hyssop on your property. The plant is unpretentious, does not require much effort on the part of the gardener. Keeps well in harsh winters.
