Hemofer is a medical preparation that is used to prevent and treat anemia caused by iron deficiency in the body. The main ingredient of Hemofer is iron (II) sulfate. How does Hemofer work and what are the contraindications to its use. How do I dose Hemofer correctly?

Hemofer – composition and action of the drug

Hemofer is a drug that is used to prevent and treat anemia caused by a deficiency of one of the vital elements, iron. Hemofer is a long-acting drug and one tablet of this medicinal preparation contains 105 mg of iron (II) ions in the form of 325 mg of dried iron (II) sulfate. The excipients are lactose monohydrate, sucrose and cochineal red, which gives the tablets a strong red color. Iron is a component of hemoglobin, including red blood cells. It is also an integral part of muscles and enzymes. Much of the iron is used for the production of hemoglobin, while the remainder is stored as ferritin and homosiderin in the liver and spleen. Absorption of iron taken in tablets is inversely proportional to the administered dose, which means that the higher the dose, the slower the absorption process. The absorption of this element, however, is directly proportional to the degree of its deficiency. This means that the greater the deficiency of iron in the body, the better it is absorbed. The normal concentration of iron in the blood serum is 50–150 µg / ml.
