Heat-resistant wire RKGM 1/1.5/2.5/4/6/16 technical characteristics, application, excellent solution for baths and saunas

RKGM wire is a product characterized by high thermal resistance, high-quality protective layer, flexible structure and the ability to conduct voltage up to 660 volts.

The product guarantees the optimal mode of transmission of electric current and the normal operation of electrical equipment. In practice, RKGM is used to power devices operating at a voltage of 180, 220, 380 and 660 volts.

The characteristics of the RKGM ensure the cable’s operability in conditions of a sharp change in temperature (from 60 degrees below zero to 180 degrees Celsius), high humidity, chemical and vibration effects.

In the manufacture of RKGM, durable and reliable components are used, and the fixing of the effect is ensured by using a special technology. Experts position RKGM as a universal option for solving problems of varying complexity. The product is sold in bays having a length of 100 and 200 m.

Characteristics of the RKGM

In the manufacture of RKGM wire, manufacturers adhere to the following requirements:

  • TU 16.K 80-09-90;
  • GOST-22483-77.

The name of the cable (RKGM) is an abbreviation, where each letter has an individual meaning and helps to navigate the technical features of the product.

Explanation:

  1. “P” – the material of the outer insulating layer (rubber).
  2. “K” – in the manufacture of insulation, organosilicon material is used.
  3. “G” – cable flexibility, lack of armor on the surface.
  4. “M” – lived copper. In the manufacture of the outer braid, a fiberglass structure was used (prescribed with enamel and varnish).

A number is often added to the abbreviation RKGM, indicating the cross section of the copper core. The information is used to decide on the possibility of using a cable for supplying electricity.

Technical characteristics of heat-resistant wire RKGM:

  • temperature range for operation from 60 degrees below zero to +180 degrees;
  • resource of eight years or more;
  • incombustibility of the material, no smoke when heated;
  • operating voltage up to 0,6 kW;
  • allowable frequency up to 400 Hz;
  • temperature for styling – from -15 to +60 degrees Celsius;
  • resistance to high atmospheric pressure and high humidity;
  • core cross section from 0,75 to 1200 sq. millimeters;
  • flexibility class of four or more (requirement of GOST 22483-77);
  • at 100% humidity, the temperature should not exceed 35 degrees Celsius;
  • the minimum bending radius during installation is no more than two meters;
  • the central core is made of copper threads that are intertwined with each other;
  • Can be used outdoors and indoors.

When choosing a wire, attention is paid to the features of the laying and load requirements. Before buying and installing it is recommended to carefully approach the choice of model and consult with a specialist.

Design subtleties

RKGM is manufactured in strict accordance with the current TU16.K80-09-90. The wire is single-core, made of copper, has flexibility from the fourth class according to the classification of GOST 22483-77.

In the current documents, the correspondence of the cross section of the core (nominal parameter) with the actual cross section of the wires is fixed. For example, a core for one “square” thickness is 0,31 mm. This means that the wire should include from three wires or more.

Elements of the RKGM:

  1. INSULATION. A special insulating layer is provided above the copper core, made using organosilicon type rubber. Today, the material has a simpler name – silicone rubber or SiR. The advantage of RKGM insulation is a high level of flexibility, resistance to high temperatures and stretching. For the manufacture of heat-resistant wire, a composition is used that retains parameters in a wide temperature range – up to 200 degrees Celsius and more. Today, silicone insulation is actively used for special fire wires that can withstand high temperatures up to 950 degrees Celsius. The thickness of the insulation varies according to the rated voltage.
  2. OUTER SHELL. A braid is provided on the surface of the product, made of special threads having a fiberglass structure and impregnated with a special type of KO-921 varnish. This approach guarantees high resistance to fire and increased strength. The specified type of varnish includes glyptal composition and organosilicon resins. The use of impregnation guarantees the resistance of the wire to high temperatures (up to 250 degrees Celsius). In general, the cable insulation belongs to class H according to GOST 8865-93 and successfully withstands temperatures of 180 degrees Celsius.

This combination makes the heat-resistant wire RKGM an indispensable assistant in a situation where flexibility, unpretentiousness and the ability to work in a wide temperature range are required.

Materials

RKGM is a wire with unique properties. Main:

  1. Increased strength. The rubber of the braid is made on a silicone basis, which eliminates damage to the product even with strong bending. In addition, the product withstands heavy loads and shows high resistance to tear damage.
  2. Work stability. The efficiency of RKGM application does not decrease regardless of ambient pressure, mechanical impacts, vibrations or other influences. The wire retains its technical qualities and guarantees the operability of the electrical receiver. During use, the wire does not break, is not afraid of deformation and retains its original shape.
  3. Thermal resistance. It was noted above that the plus of RKGM is the ability to withstand powerful thermal effects. In the process of manufacturing insulation, special components are used that maintain quality even at high temperatures. Heating the wire does not affect its functionality and does not lead to fire. If the set temperature is exceeded by more than 250 degrees Celsius, the RKGM still does not light up.
  4. Resistant to harmful influences. Practice has shown that the product is not afraid of the appearance of fungus or mold when laying in conditions of high humidity. The braid has a special structure and is impregnated with special compounds that allow you to mount the product in a bath, sauna or on the street. RKGM can be used to connect equipment in wet areas without endangering its performance.

The properties of the wire can be described for a long time, but these parameters best characterize its quality.

Scope of use

As noted, RKGM is characterized by heat resistance and can withstand up to 660 volts of voltage, having a frequency of up to 400 Hz. Due to this feature, the wire can be used in the following conditions:

  1. When installing cable products inside objects and on the street (used for areas with a temperate climate).
  2. In enterprises operating in the chemical industry. This is due to the resistance of its insulation to the negative effects of various elements. Even if aggressive substances get on the surface, the braid does not dissolve.
  3. For supplying powerful electrical consumers with high load current. RKGM is also used to supply voltage to AC machines.
  4. In places with high humidity, where there is a risk of mold and mildew.

The RKGM wire is often used in solving household problems. It is used to supply electricity in a bath or sauna, when switching equipment located in rooms with a high temperature.

A wire with a cross section of 2,5 “square” is suitable for connecting sockets in a house or apartment, and a cross section of 1,5 “square” is used for lighting networks where there is less load.

In addition, RKGM is used to create wiring in the bathroom, which is characterized by high humidity. As far as low temperature applications are concerned, this is not desirable. The reason is the low resistance of the shell to severe frost.

Manufacturers

The improved characteristics of the RKGM cable make it a popular product in the CIS market. It is not surprising that domestic factories are actively involved in the manufacture of such products, despite the complexity of production. Judging by the reviews, the best products are offered by Rybinskabel, Liparkabel (Krasnoyarsk), Kamkabel, the Novomoskovsk cable plant, and Uralkabel.

If the required type of cable is not on sale, you can use its analogues. The main requirement is compliance with the technical parameters of TU16.K80-09-90. An alternative is a wire of the PRCT type, which has similar characteristics.

Given the above, draw the following conclusions. RKGM is the best solution:

  • in everyday life, it is good for laying wiring in baths, saunas and baths;
  • in industry – for connecting powerful machines and in the manufacture of windings for large equipment;
  • in chemical production, the use of RKGM saves insulation from damage (the product is resistant to paints and varnishes);
  • installation at nuclear industry facilities is allowed (after obtaining a special license).

In addition, RKGM is used for the installation of electric stoves, ovens and thermal cabinets, as well as other products operating at high temperatures (including in the tropics).
