Heart attack and angina pectoris: the first steps

What is that ?

A heart attack occurs when a blood vessel or an artery that carries blood to the heart is blocked by a blood clot.

Angina pectoris occurs if the heart does not receive enough blood and oxygen. It is caused by poor circulation of blood to the heart.

Symptoms of heart failure

  • Difficulty in breathing;
  • Shortness of breath;
  • Red face and clammy skin;
  • Sweat ;
  • Pain or feeling of pressure in the chest;
  • Pain can be felt in the neck, jaw, shoulder or left arm;
  • The victim often has an impression of indigestion;
  • Nausea or vomiting;
  • Weakness and dizziness;
  • State of shock.

How to react ?

  • Call for help;
  • Loosen the clothes and sit the victim in a comfortable position;
  • Ask the victim if they have a medical history or if there are any heart problems in their family’s medical history;
  • Ask if the victim has any medicine (nitroglycerin) for heart problems. Also ask the victim if they have taken any Viagra within the last 48 hours. If the answer is yes, do not help the victim to take any medication which is incompatible with Viagra. If the answer is no, help the victim to take them;
  • If the victim does not have any medication, ask if they have anyaspirine (acetylsalicylic acid) and advise him to chew some. Aspirin thins the blood.
