Healthy cooking at low prices: our tips

Bet on the home-made

Don’t feel like cooking or have the time? We all opted for ready meals. Super practical but they most often contain fats, sugars, salt and additives. Manufacturers put a lot of starchy foods there. Stop! Better to cook yourself. This makes it possible to choose quality foods, to control additions. Another tip: prepare meals in large quantities and freeze portions to take them out as you go.

Enhance natural dairy products

Did you know that yoghurts, flavored white cheeses or with fruits cost twice as much as natural dairy products. And they’re packed with sugar, preservatives, and other additives. The solution: choose basic products and add honey, pieces of fruit, chia seeds, berries… In addition, it provides vitamins!

Buy in season

Fruits and vegetables, but also seasonal fish are less expensive. And, they have more taste. You can also buy local, this avoids transport costs, but also preservatives which allow the food to hold up during the journey.

Yes, with frozen vegetables!

Choose plain frozen vegetables. Their price is almost identical to fresh, they contain lots of vitamins and they are ready to use: 5 to 10 minutes of steaming is enough… without having to wash or peel them.

Reduce your meat consumption

We eat too much animal protein which is bad for our health. The right amounts for a balanced plate: 150 g of meat or fish for a woman, 200 g for a man and 35 g for a 2 year old child per day are sufficient.

Opt for fatty fish every week

Mackerel, tuna, sardines… are full of omega 3. In addition, they are inexpensive and they are good for your health. Opt for plain or olive oil preparations.

Choose
 dried vegetables

Red or white beans, lentils… are packed with nutrients (protein, iron, magnesium…) with a low glycemic index. By cooking them with cereals, they replace (occasionally) meat or fish for less.

Rcycle

Too much food is thrown away. To avoid waste, we learn to accommodate leftovers with simple recipes, we use the whole food if possible, we make regular purchases rather than a large shopping cart per week. And, we often check the expiration dates.

Anobl is
 some meats

Less expensive than veal, pork is not necessarily fatter when we favor roast in tenderloin or filet mignon. For beef stir-fries, we use collar or shank, barely 5% fat.
