Healthier fast food options don’t mean less

The standard menu has generally grown by “Healthy” salads, yoghurts and other products aspiring to be “light”. Unfortunately, these proposals are not less caloric, despite the addition of a mountain of lettuce or apple pieces. Lead author of the study, Dr.Katherine Bauer of Temple University’s department of public health, says: Appetizer salads, which are more and more, are also bad. With fried chicken and dressing, they have more calories than a regular burger. The works appeared in the review American Journal of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Bauer analyzed the menu of 8 fast food chains – McDonald’s, Burger King, Wendy’s, Taco Bell, KFC, Arby’s, Jack in the Box and Dairy Queen – in the United States, using data from the University of Minnesota Nutrition Coordinating Center Food and Nutrient Database .

She discoveredslight difference between the average number of calories in a starter (approx. 453 calories for sandwiches and salads). Other dishes, such as chips, soups, and bread, average 262 calories. The researchers also found a slight increase in caloric content for drinks and spices.
