Łukasz Szumowski ensures that the risk of coronavirus infection at a polling station is lower than when shopping or dining at a restaurant.

Election 2020. Is it safe in the premises?

In an interview with a journalist from Rzeczpospolita, the health minister said that sanitary rules were strictly adhered to in polling stations.

He assured voters that voters should not be afraid of voting: – As we analyzed, how much time voters spend in the premises, it is a few minutes, and the very definition of a case requires about 15 minutes under one roof, in close contact. Therefore, going to the elections is safer at the moment than going shopping – said the head of the Ministry of Health.

The minister added that the requirements of wearing masks and maintaining social distance are increasingly not respected in stores, which means that the risk of infection is higher there than during voting.

In polling stations, it is obligatory to cover the mouth and nose, hands must be disinfected, and a certain number of people may be inside. For the second round, facilities for seniors, pregnant women, parents with children under 3 years of age and the disabled – they do not have to wait in line in front of the premises, they can enter out of order.

Łukasz Szumowski also spoke about the current epidemiological situation in the country. That said, there is an improvement in the virus scores.

At the moment, the epidemic is in decline, and I hope it will remain so. This element of uncertainty always remains. Of course, you always have to be humble, because the epidemic is unpredictable.

At the same time, the minister warned that the situation could change in the fall. Experts predict that then we will face a second wave of COVID-19 cases.
