«The boss has all index fingers»

Leonid Krainov-Rytov

During my career as a Leader, in countless attempts to somehow systematize my work, at a certain point I made a list of everything that the Leader does, and attempted to classify this stream of consciousness.

The output turned out harmoniously and logically, I called the result system «5K»: Competences of the Commander (c), R. Logan.

  • 1K: Who — Personality of the leader.
  • 2K: Context Where, who, when, under what conditions. Planning, Delegation, Motivation.
  • 3K: Control — Well,… Control.
  • 4K: Conflicts — Management and permission.
  • 5K: Team — Creation and management. Projects. Team motivation.

These 5K fit all the competencies of the Manager and all competencies should be, otherwise:

  • Weak 1K Personality — no personal power = mess.
  • Weak 2K Context — mistakes in choosing a performer, lack of consideration of motivation, etc.
  • Weak 3K Control — a wide zone of uncertainty in the current state of affairs.
  • Weak 4K Conflict — fear of employee punishment, inability to resolve «acute» situations.
  • Weak 5K Team — as one of the heroes of the film «Coach» said: «11 individual entrepreneurs are chasing the ball around the field.»

You look at all 5K, analyze where your drawdown is, how to pull it up.

Further, Manager’s work = Management Technology + Management Psychology (my vision, the terms do not coincide with those used in classical management).

  • Control technology — impact on behavior employee in order to get the result — «Do it!»
  • Psychology of management — impact on reasoning employee in order to obtain a result — «This and this is important and valuable!»

«Slows down» HERE — The leader focuses only on empathy and communication, the result is a weak alienability and scalability of resources.

«Procedet» PU — The manager works strictly according to business processes, the result is the lack of a breakthrough due to creativity and ideas.

In total, it is necessary to develop both TU and PU, the real result appears where the width and depth of the managerial arsenal allows you to make and implement flexible decisions.

Successful management!
