He lived with a penis on his shoulder for six years. Literally. «A story to tell to the grandchildren»

A native of Norfolk, England, lost his innately after suffering a perineal infection. The hope for regaining his masculinity was supposed to be an artificial penis, which surgeons “produced” from a flap of skin on the man’s arm. He was then to be moved to the right place, but complications arose that forced the doctors to stop the operation.

  1. 47-year-old British Malcolm MacDonald gained a “new life” after doctors transplanted an artificial penis made of a flap of skin on his arm
  2. Before the surgery was successful, the man had to live for six years with a penis on his arm. The treatment was delayed, among others due to the shortage of personnel and restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic
  3. After the surgery, MacDonald can function normally, incl. urinating and having sex. He told about the fact that he felt like a real man again in a specially made document, excerpts of which were quoted by the New York Post website.

Malcolm MacDonald’s penis surgery was due to take place soon, but as reported by the New York Post due to scheduling errors, staff shortages and the COVID-19 pandemic, it was delayed by as much as six years. All this time, MacDonald lived with a bred member attached to his arm. As he said in the documentary “A man with a penis on his shoulder”, filmed just about him, he managed to get used to the uncomfortable situation after some time.

He even saw a certain comedy in it. In the movie, he mentions helping an elderly woman get something off a high shelf in a store and his penis suddenly pops out from under his sleeve, almost hitting the customer on the head. «It’s a good story to tell your grandchildren, isn’t it?» says McDonald, quoted by the New York Post.

Pump to assist erection

But MacDonald’s ordeal was finally over. Earlier this year, doctors performed a successful operation by moving the artificially created penis from the shoulder to the pubic area.

The operation lasted nine hours. Nerves and blood vessels were taken from the arm and sutured in the pubic area to ensure blood supply to the formed penis. Plastic surgeons and urologists collaborated during the procedure. The idea was to make sure that the urethra would be functioning normally.

Eventually, efficient medics even installed special tubes so that MacDonald could “inflate” his penis with a hand pump to get an erection.

“I feel like a real man again”

“This could be a turning point in my life,” said the man, delighted with the prospect of finally having sex again. It turned out that MacDonald’s artificial penis is even better than his real one. It is almost 15,5 cm long. “I feel like a real man again,” said MacDonald, 47, now.

Malcolm MacDonald is not the only man to make headlines in recent months over problems with his masculinity. In March, a man in New York City almost lost his penis after injecting cocaine into a vein of a penis. He refused to undergo an operation to amputate dying tissue. However, he was given antibiotics and after some time his condition improved.
