Thanks to the police cooperation of the ENFAST network, officers from the Criminal Police Office of the Police Headquarters together with Norwegian policemen detained in Norway the double killer, Paweł Z, who had been hiding for seven years, said inspector Mariusz Ciarka, a spokesman for the Police Headquarters, who had been hiding for seven years.
Double murder in Warsaw
The crime took place in November 1999 in Warsaw at ul. Okocimska. Paweł Z. then killed Jacek G. and his concubine Katarzyna K. by firing a few shots with a firearm, after which he stole their cars and telephones, and then set fire to the apartment to cover his tracks.
Z. was arrested by the police in May 2000 and sentenced to life imprisonment for the acts he had committed, with the possibility of applying for a conditional early release after 30 years.
However, after 14 years, in the summer of 2014, the court granted him a three-month break from the execution of his sentence due to “important family considerations”. According to unofficial information found by PAP, Z. was supposed to donate a kidney to his sick mother. However, after leaving prison, he fled the country and went into hiding since then, and his mother died shortly thereafter.
The killer escaped and was hiding in Norway
Inspector Mariusz Ciarka, the spokesman of the Police Headquarters, informed in an interview with PAP that after seven years of hiding, Paweł Z.’s trail appeared, leading to Scandinavia. – Polish policemen from the Criminal Police Office of the National Police Headquarters and Norwegian officers from the National Investigation Office KRIPOS, belonging to the international police network ENFAST, joined forces and by carrying out checks, “step by step” approached the wanted man – noted the inspector.
– ENFAST is a police cooperation network that deals with the quick and direct exchange of information on the most dangerous, internationally wanted criminals – he explained, adding that Polish and Norwegian SIRENE bureaux, acting as contact points, were also involved in the case.
KGP spokesman emphasized that the arrest took place in mid-June on one of the streets in Bergen, Norway. – During the detention, the wanted person did not admit his identity and provided other personal data. However, the carried out identification activities confirmed his true identity – he said.
– The wanted man will remain in Norwegian custody until he is extradited to Poland – added Inspector Ciarka.
