British scientists have published the latest research on death during sex. It turns out that fatal heart attacks during love are not fairy tales. They concern not only older people and not only men.

Some time ago, the media heard information about the bizarre death of Charles Majaw. A 35-year-old man from Malawi passed out while having sex with a woman. The woman immediately called for help, but the rescuers were no longer able to save the man. The real cause of death was revealed only by a later post-mortem examination. It turned out that he died from “excessive orgasm, which ruptured blood vessels in the brain”.
Another devourer of women’s hearts, whose heart could not stand it, was the famous Italian lover and playboy Maurizio Zanfanti. The man boasted that he had picked up over six thousand in his life. women. This is why the Italian press hailed him as “king of playboys”. The 63-year-old died as he lived – from a heart attack while having sex with a 23-year-old woman.
Such cases, although loud, are not common. Research shows that deaths during sex are extremely rare. German researchers analyzed 32 thousand. sudden deaths in the last 33 years. They show that just over 0,2 percent. of them occurred during sexual activity. Usually, the victims of amorous ecstasy were men aged 55-60 who died of a heart attack.
However, the latest research by scientists from St. George’s University of London shed new light on the matter. Doctors verified over 6,8 thousand. cases referred to the local heart pathology center.
As it turned out? 17 cases (0,2%) occurred during or within an hour of sexual activity. The mean age of death was 38 and 35 percent. the cases involved women. In half of the cases, the heart was structurally healthy. According to research the main causes of death during sex are:
- Abnormal heart rhythm, i.e. sudden cardiac death syndrome;
- Aortic dissection concerned 12 percent cases. The artery that carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body is ruptured. In other words, blood flows between the layers, causing them to bulge and crack;
- Structural and genetic anomalies such as cardiomyopathy. It is a group of diseases related to the structure and function of the heart and rare genetic diseases.
The low number of deaths due to sexual activity suggests that the risk of dying during sex is very low – even in people with existing heart conditions.
