The Italian media has a story of a staunch opponent of COVID-19 vaccination, who only became convinced of the pandemic on his deathbed. The 66-year-old asked a team of doctors to write down the words that later ended up in his obituary.

Giuseppe Giuca was 66 years old and lived in Syracuse, Sicily. He told his friends in his favorite bar what all the anti-vaccines were saying: COVID-19 does not exist, the vaccine is a business of pharmaceutical companies. Then the man fell ill and went to the Umberto I Hospital in Syracuse.

Doctors fought for two weeks to save the 66-year-old from death. When the patient realized that nothing else could be done, he dictated the words to one of the doctors, which were later placed in his obituary: “If I had believed in a pandemic … if I had believed in the coronavirus … today I would be telling a different story, completely different”.
So his last will appeared on funeral posters that are hung on walls in small Sicilian towns. On Monday there was a funeral in the Church of San Sebastiano. The parish priest who celebrated the mass “absolved” Giuseppe with these words: “Sometimes in life we make wrong choices, let our brother’s death be a sign of hope for those to whom he addressed his message. Admitting your own mistake and warning others not to do the same is a light to follow, ”quotes Fr. La Stampa.
Family and friends were also skeptical
The granddaughter, speaking in the church in front of the coffin, also admitted that her attitude to the pandemic was wrong: “The coronavirus, which did not concern us, knocked on the door of our house and destroyed everything”. The man’s 93-year-old mother also fell ill, but her life is no longer in danger. In the bar in Belvedere, where Giuca often stayed, people divided into those who tried to convince him to do so, and those who agreed with him. After his death, some changed their minds and decided to instill: “We could not help but listen to his last wish” – say those quoted by La Stampa.
