Hayman’s (Hymans)

Gins Hayman’s (Hymans) are created according to the recipes of the founder of the industry, James Barrow. The winemaker was the first to establish the production of a quality drink, which ceased to be considered cheap alcohol for the poor and gained popularity among the English aristocracy. Hayman Limited is a company founded by the descendants of the Barrow family, who use the rich heritage of their ancestor in their work.

Historical information

The founder of the gin business, James Barrow, purchased his first distillery in 1863. Then he founded a company that he named after himself. The entrepreneur was a chemist by training and worked hard on the recipes for his drinks. The company’s flagship product, the Beefeater gin, was in great demand, so the business prospered.

Barrow died in 1897 and his three sons took over. In 1906, they purchased premises in Lambeth, which they converted to gin production, where the company operated for more than 50 years. In 1958, a factory was built in Kennington, which is still owned by the company.

Barrow’s great-grandson Christopher Hyman joined the company in 1969 and worked in all departments from the bottom. Hyman took over the management of several of the company’s factories, but he wanted to deal exclusively with the family gin business.

Hyman soon had the opportunity. Financial advisers reported the poor performance of one of the distilleries and advised to get rid of it. The businessman bought the company for his family and focused on the production of gin according to family recipes under the Hayman’s brand. The company is now known as Hayman Limited.
