Hawthorn tincture: 3 recipes at home

What do you associate hawthorn tincture with? Probably with pharmacy drugs in dark glass bottles. But few people know that these berries can be used to make delicious drinking tinctures that will decorate any feast.

At home, preparing hawthorn tincture is not difficult. To do this, we need to take a berry of any variety, since today there are more than 300 species.

Tips before starting

  1. It is better to take dried raw materials, but if you have a fresh berry, then you need to take it twice as much as indicated in the recipe.

  2. If we talk about the alcohol component, then everything is also simple here: vodka, alcohol and double distillation moonshine. Also, as an experiment, you can take a gin or a good, but inexpensive cognac.

  3. It is important to remember that hawthorn does not have a pronounced taste and aroma, and therefore it is recommended to infuse it with other richer ingredients, such as cinnamon, honey, various herbs, vanillin and others.

Now consider the three most common tincture recipes.

A simple hawthorn tincture recipe

Ingredients

  1. Dried red hawthorn – 1 cup

  2. Food alcohol (50%) – 800 ml

  3. Small cinnamon stick – 1 pc.

  4. Honey – 1 Art. l

  5. Vanillin – 1 pinch

Method of preparation

  1. Pour the berries into a glass container, add a cinnamon stick to them and fill with alcohol.

  2. We insist the tincture for about three weeks in a dark place at room temperature. During this time, the berries will give their color to the drink and become pale yellow.

  3. At the end of the term, the tincture must be filtered and then filtered.

  4. Now, we warm up the honey a little, mix it with vanilla and add the aromatic mixture to the tincture.

  5. We shake the container with the drink and leave it for another week to stabilize the taste.

  6. Before the start of the tasting, the drink is drained from the sediment, filtered again and poured into a bottle.

  7. Everything, fragrant tincture of hawthorn is ready!

Spicy fragrant tincture of hawthorn

Ingredients

  1. Hawthorn – 5 g

  2. Moonshine (50%) – 1 l

  3. St. John’s wort, lemon balm, oregano and peppermint – 5 g each herb

  4. Bitter wormwood, marjoram, thyme, sweet clover, white letter – 2,5 g each

  5. Cardamom seeds and anise (not star-shaped) – 1,25 g each

Method of preparation

  1. To begin with, we weigh each of the ingredients on a kitchen scale and pour them into a glass container.

  2. Then pour in alcohol and leave for a week in a dark place.

  3. At the end of the exposure period, the tincture is filtered and filtered.

  4. Also, if desired, you can add granulated sugar – no more than one teaspoon per liter of tincture.

  5. We leave the drink for a couple of days to stabilize the taste and you can take a sample.

Hawthorn tincture with wild rose and galangal

Ingredients

  1. Dried hawthorn – 2 tbsp. l.

  2. Vodka – 500 ml

  3. Dried rose hips – 1 tbsp. l.

  4. Ground galangal root – 0,5 tsp.

  5. Granulated sugar – 50 g

  6. Water – 50 ml

Method of preparation

  1. We fall asleep hawthorn in a glass container, pour vodka and insist one month in a warm, dark place. Shake the contents of the container once a week.

  2. Then we filter the infusion, and squeeze the pulp well.

  3. We prepare classic sugar syrup from water and granulated sugar.

  4. After it has cooled, mix the syrup with the tincture and keep for about 3-5 more days under the same conditions.

  5. Now we filter the finished tincture and bottle it.

  6. The strength of the drink is 30–32 degrees, the shelf life is 3 years. Serve chilled.
