Hawthorn: composition, useful properties. Video
Hawthorn is also known as Glod, Boyarka, Lady, Gludin, etc. This plant has many valuable properties, therefore it is widely used in pharmacology and folk medicine.
Useful properties of hawthorn
For medicinal purposes, different parts of the plant are used: fruits, flowers and even bark. So, berries are rich in sugars, tannins, fatty acids, pectins, phytosterols, glycosides, flavonoids, triterpene and phenol carboxylic acids, choline, beta-carotene, vitamins P, C and E, as well as micro- and macroelements and other biologically active substances. And hawthorn flowers contain caffeic and chlorogenic acids, flavonoids, choline, trimethylcholine, essential oils, etc.
With such a rich composition, hawthorn has a wide range of uses. It is used to strengthen the heart muscle, with hypertension, after myocardial infarction, with tachycardia, hyperthyroidism and insomnia. Hawthorn is also an effective decongestant and antirheumatic agent. In addition, the triterpenic acids present in hawthorn increase blood circulation, dilate the blood vessels of the brain and coronary vessels, improve the supply of oxygen to the neurons of the brain, therefore this medicinal plant is prescribed for epilepsy and severe headaches.
But hawthorn also has contraindications. It should not be used for hypotension, increased blood clotting and bradycardia.
Reception of hawthorn during pregnancy and during lactation should be carried out exclusively under the supervision of a doctor.
The use of hawthorn in traditional medicine
With atherosclerosis, it is recommended to take an infusion of hawthorn flowers.
To prepare it, you will need the following components:
- 100 ml of vodka
- 3 tbsp. l. hawthorn flowers
The flowers are crushed and poured with vodka, after which the mixture is infused for 10 days at room temperature (in a shaded place). From time to time, the container in which the agent is infused is shaken.
The infusion is taken in 1 tsp. once a day 15-20 minutes before meals
To increase hemoglobin in the blood, they drink tea made from:
- 50 g crushed hawthorn flowers and fruits
- 1 cup of boiling water
The medicinal plant is poured with boiling water, insisted for 27-30 minutes, and then filtered. This infusion is recommended to drink ½ cup twice a day.
This infusion is effective for hypertension, insomnia and heart palpitations.
After a heart attack, as well as for other heart diseases, tea is brewed.
Its recipe is as follows:
- 1,5 cup of boiling water
- 1 tbsp. l. chopped fruit
The fruits are poured with boiling water and insisted for 17–20 minutes, after which they live.
Healing tea is drunk three times a day for ½ cup
To relieve nervous tension, an infusion is prepared from the following components:
- 1 tbsp. l. dried fruit
- 1 cup boiling water
The fruits are poured with boiling water and infused for 2 hours, and then the tea is filtered. Drink infusion in 1-2 tbsp. l. 3-4 times a day before meals.
