Terms of planting potatoes in Siberia

Siberia occupies a rather vast area: it will be about 57% of the territory of the whole of Our Country. The whole of Siberia can be conditionally divided into Western and Eastern regions. The climatic conditions in them are slightly different, which means that the timing of planting potatoes also differs.

The eastern regions are distinguished by their severe long winters and short but very hot summers. It is in these regions that the weather has a wayward character: frosts, uneven precipitation, most of which falls in late summer or early autumn. Considering all these factors, potato planting dates in this region begin in mid-May, when the weather stabilizes a bit.

But the western regions were a little more fortunate. Their climate is a little milder, so you can plant potatoes in Western Siberia as early as early May.

Advice! Many gardeners use folk landmarks based on various natural processes to determine planting dates.

According to these folk guidelines, you can plant potatoes only after the first buds begin to bloom on the birch.

Reviews

Valentina, 57 years old, Igarka
We planted Lucky potatoes for the first time in 2000 and now we plant them every year. We plant it not with a whole potato, but divide it by eye. Before planting, roll each piece in ashes and plant. In the future, everything is as always: we loosen, spud and process from the Colorado potato beetle. Every year, from 3 kilograms of planting material, we get 6 bags of potatoes. Recommended.
Nikolai, 36 years old, Bratsk
Planted different varieties of potatoes, but the best results were shown by Lyubava and Luck. In our beds, we plant them only under straw, and every year after harvesting we plant green manure in the garden. Harvests are always collected excellent. Both varieties keep well.
Galina, 41 years old, Kuibyshev
We usually plant early Zhukovsky potatoes, but last year, on the advice of our neighbors, we tried to plant Lugovskoy. Young potatoes of both varieties are very tasty, but Lugovskoy’s slightly overripe potatoes seemed tastier to us. Therefore, we will now plant two varieties: one for early digging, and the other for late.
