One of the most popular sauces, without which a rare feast can do, is called mayonnaise. Manufacturers sell a huge variety of its varieties, in fact, far from real sauce in their composition. But this is not the only drawback. The craze for this fatty product can significantly harm health.
If we talk about the composition of classic mayonnaise, then only the following products can be present in it: – raw egg yolks, – vegetable oil, – salt, – sugar, – lemon juice.
Mustard is added to some types of mayonnaise. But such a sauce can only be stored in the refrigerator and no more than a few days, while the shelf life of factory mayonnaise is calculated in months, which already suggests the presence of preservatives in them that are unnecessary for the human body.
On the basis of this fatty sauce, various variations of taste are created, which are obtained by adding not very useful flavors, therefore one can only dream of the benefits of the so-called cheese, mushroom and other mayonnaise
Being almost pure fat, mayonnaise negatively affects the figure, as it increases the calorie content of any dish, even if consumed in small quantities. Since it improves the taste of the dish, much more food is absorbed with it than would be eaten without it. But obesity is not the only possible harmful consequence of mayonnaise abuse. Excessive presence of fatty foods in the menu can also have a negative effect on the state of blood vessels, contributing to the formation of cholesterol plaques in them.
There is also an opinion that stabilizers and emulsifiers present in the composition of industrial mayonnaise adversely affect the state of the intestinal microflora, which is affected in a similar way by any other not too healthy food rich in chemical components.
Do not hope that low-calorie mayonnaises, which actually contain less fat, are healthier. But the uniformity of their consistency is achieved due to special and not useful thickeners.
Is there a benefit from mayonnaise
Having learned about such consequences of mayonnaise abuse, it seems that it is easier to give up its use in principle than to find positive aspects in it. But in reality, things are not so hopeless. Firstly, homemade mayonnaise is radically different from store-bought mayonnaise and is initially safer, since it does not contain unnecessary chemical ingredients, preservatives and other harmful components. Secondly, the use of mayonnaise in small quantities and occasionally is safe for health, therefore it makes no sense to completely deprive yourself of the joy of trying gastronomic delights with his participation. Moreover, in a number of salads you cannot do without it.
