Hard fibroma is a small neoplastic lesion that does not become malignant, so don’t be alarmed. However, its appearance is not aesthetic, so many people decide to remove the lump. What’s the easiest way to get rid of hard fibroma? We check how it can be removed, as well as why it arises.

Hard fibroma – general characteristics

Hard fibroma is a benign pathological change that appears on the skin. It usually has a spherical or baggy shape with a diameter of 2 mm to 5 cm. The color of the fibroma is dark brown. It does not hurt when touched, it is relatively hard, but it cannot be pressed during the examination because it moves under the skin. It is usually difficult to notice, because even for several years it may not give any specific symptoms indicating that a benign neoplastic lesion appears on the skin.

Hard fibroma – why does it arise?

Fibromas often appear on the skin as a result of inflammation, including folliculitis. A wart rupture or an insect bite may also lead to a mild pathological lesion. Diseases (e.g. diabetes), obesity, Recklinghausen syndrome, and hormonal disorders caused by pregnancy can also be included among the causes of the formation of fibromas.

Hard fibroma – where does it usually arise?

Covered with thickened epidermis, the hard fibroma most often appears on the lower limbs (on the knee or thigh). The lesion may also be located on the torso and face. Fibromas also appear on the breasts, which should not be a cause for concern, but your doctor should look at the changes. In this case, detailed diagnostics are needed. Compared to soft fibromas, it occurs singly, but we can notice small clusters on the skin. Lumps under the skin are more often seen in adults.

Hard fibroma – diagnosis

Hard fibroma, due to its unattractive appearance, is often a cause of discomfort. For this reason, we can consult a dermatologist (not a cosmetologist) who will assess whether we are actually dealing with a hard fibroma. It can be confused with fibrosarcoma or melanoma. Often, during a diagnostic examination, the doctor takes a sample for a histopathological examination to make sure that there is no suspicion of cancer.

Hard fibroma – removal methods

One way to get rid of hard fibroma is to remove it completely by surgery. However, the procedure is performed only when its malignancy is suspected. Another minimally invasive method of removing a skin lesion is cryotherapy. The treatment consists in freezing the hard fibroma. However, be aware that the subcutaneous lesion may reappear in the same place.

Hard Fibroma – Are There Home Remedies To Remove A Lump?

Theoretically, Home remedies for hard fibroma removal exist, but they are not recommended as they may cause the nodule to grow largerand the need to consult a dermatologist. Often, patients try to remove the lesion with apple cider vinegar or salicylic ointment.
