Handwriting analysis hides many possibilities and important information. In order to understand the reasons for the information content of handwriting, let’s try to explain in simple words what was discovered long ago and especially intensively studied in the last century by scientists in this field.
Everything that happens to us: our consciousness and subconsciousness, any actions, is controlled by a single center — the brain. Nothing happens without a reason. All the features of the nervous and other systems operating in our body will necessarily be reflected in the physiological, motor, and even pain level.
The brain governs and determines our ability to concentrate, to orientate, to remember, to react in different situations. It is our innate characteristics that determine the basic type of thinking, perception, determine our psychosomatic constitution.
Contrary to attempts to inspire us to the opposite in Soviet times, when genetics and graphology were called “pseudosciences,” as has long been known, a person is not born with a “blank slate”, it is impossible to “make an ideal person” out of him. Moreover, I dare to add: our conscious will, desire, some external factors are by no means the main part of the whole personality, this is only a small visible part of the whole “iceberg”, the main mass of which is unchanged and rests in the depths of the ocean of the subconscious and innate features.
As it was said, our brain and personality leave their «print» in all external manifestations, in body movements, etc. A clear analogy of this principle, only on a micro scale, is our handwriting.
The relationship between the brain and the motor skills of the body is known and has been used since ancient times: the special positions of the hand, fingers during meditation, relaxation, and dance therapy, which is so popular today, are by no means due to chance or aesthetic considerations. This is how you can send the desired impulses to the brain, because the brain itself constantly does this — it leaves traces of what is happening inside it, through the body, in everything (in particular, in handwriting), like a detailed x-ray.
Analyzing handwriting, experts use the knowledge of physiology, motor skills and psychology. The brain will not let you lie or hide anything, because. any manifestation of internal trouble will give various kinds of interference in handwriting: the hand will tremble, the movement will be distorted, and sometimes an involuntary micro-movement will occur, speed or pressure will be lost …
One interesting example is the so-called «white holes». They call those parts of the sheet that are left clean. Experienced graphologists know that nothing happens without a reason — and I, who studied with them, your obedient servant, never ceases to be convinced that they are right — everything really works and is confirmed. These «white holes» in a handwritten document, a letter or a sheet of paper are nothing but «black holes» of the subconscious! Sometimes you can see how the “creeping out” subconsciousness literally absorbs a person, how he feels literally paralyzed in some areas of life, cut off, alienated, and without any objective reasons, deeply lonely, misunderstood and misunderstood… White “black” holes have their own interpretations , depending on its location.
In the analysis of handwriting, sides and directions are very important. For example, each of the four «boxes» that frame the text has its own meaning. In addition, handwriting analysis examines personality in three dimensions rather than two dimensions: height, width, and depth.
Oddly enough, but almost nothing depends on the hand, it is only an instrument of our brain: it is the BRAIN as a whole that is not so much consciousness. This is also confirmed by studies under hypnosis (when suggested age, different human qualities or emotions confirmed known patterns).
Scientists were able to “translate” into graphological language many typologies and concepts known in psychology (the specialty of a graphologist in Israel requires an academic education and provides for thorough training in other areas of psychology. Note ed.). For example, graphology students are already taught to determine sensory-intuition, logic-emotiveness, extraversion-introversion as part of the official curriculum. As for Jung, the author herself studied, in particular, according to the transformed American system of 16 Myers-Briggs psychotypes. Graphologists also use other typologies: Freud, Le Senna, Maslow, Audem, etc. However, I prefer Jung, because his typology works well and quickly in handwriting analysis. On my site there are «lessons of graphology according to Jung».
Psychodiagnostics by handwriting is a real «laboratory analysis» of a personality and it is good because:
a) systemic and allows to apply a typological approach,
b) its undoubted advantage is the solution of the eternal problem of any psychological typing — the factor of subjectivity in the very process of typing (on both sides), it is impossible to prepare for such psychodiagnostics or imagine how approximately a person like him (in his opinion) should «answer», also — you can be diagnosed many times without fear that a person is already “used to” or “heard” something.
c) such psychodiagnostics also does not depend on any other, unconscious interference that can distort the picture of his answers or reactions: he is a person’s motivation, his well-being, mood, fatigue.
- Note: the fact that, unlike other testing methods, graphological analysis is individual, deserves special attention: the use of typologies is only a preliminary stage. After the basic psychotype (more precisely, typological proportions) of the personality is established, the picture of the personality is supplemented by the definition of unique, inherent only to it, strokes, developmental features, deviations or problems. It is important to understand that real people rarely exactly fit the description of psychotypes in their pure form. Often a person has properties of several types.
In addition, traits that lie beyond the definition of psychotypes as such can often become defining moments in a person (these can be neuroses, psychological trauma, religious attitudes or beliefs, features of upbringing, the influence of the environment.). The analysis allows you to determine the level of vitality, sexual claims and satisfaction of a given person.
A few words about the influence of factors such as gender and age in handwriting. Handwriting reveals not so much external, factual data as the inside of a person. Since in most cases they match, there is a good chance of determining gender and age. However, it is important to say that a good chance is not a guarantee, and there are exceptional cases when “internal” data contradicts external ones, so knowing the actual data can reveal something very important about a person.
Having made a reservation and refusing to generalize, we will nevertheless describe “typical female” and “typical male”, “typical young, mature and old” handwriting. From an ordinary, average woman, one can expect greater roundness and fullness of letters, a greater degree of connectedness, a smaller number of sharp corners and sharp strokes, a non-simplified form, possibly with decorations, «accelerations», deep «garlands», the height variation (upper and lower processes) is less , handwriting looks “more harmonious” or more aesthetic, more often women have better readability.
Men often write smaller or sharper than women, angularities, sharp strokes, “sticks”, simplification of forms (sometimes letters leave a “skeleton”), often poor readability, and straight handwriting stand out. If you imagine the extremes, then «femininity» writes in circles, and «masculinity» — with bayonets. But extreme is not the norm, and excessive flexibility is just as bad as excessive rigidity.
Male handwriting (website editor’s handwriting):
Again, summarizing, we can say that youth, looking for themselves and restless (psychologically and hormonally), usually writes unstable, changes the size and slope of the letters randomly, then disappears, otherwise the pressure and color of the lines are too strong, inconstancy in most graphic features. Youthful handwriting is also called the handwriting of the “forbidden fruit”: a person involuntarily feels his strong inner impulses and passions, but is either frightened, ashamed of them, or does not know where to direct his energy. The handwriting is sometimes round and wide, sometimes narrow, there are often some complications and intricacies, or «raggedness» in the lower zone of letters (lower processes), associated with ID, subconsciousness and primary needs. Mature handwriting characterizes constancy in most indicators. Senile — broken lines, suddenly disappearing lines and continuations of letters, trembling, slow writing speed, motor disturbances. Despite all that has been said, it’s still not worth generalizing, each person is individual, despite his gender, age and even psychotype!
As an additional confirmation or addition to the graphological conclusion, graphologists also use graphic, projective, digital, and other tests.
Handwriting analysis is a powerful tool for psychodiagnostics. The foregoing gives only a basic idea of the capabilities of this tool.
Examples of determining the type by handwriting.

Handwriting description:
The extreme deviation of this handwriting from the standard dictated by cursive is striking. He essentially invents his own, unique elements, finds unusual «brilliantly simple» solutions in linking letters. This handwriting is characterized by thread-like and variability of forms. The dynamics and liveliness of the movement is adjacent to excessively increased distances between words, letters and lines. Noteworthy is the small size, abruptness and simplification of handwriting.
The author of the handwriting is a gifted person, with a particularly developed rare intuition and a sharp mind. He is able to perfectly navigate in any life situations, foresees the course of events several stages ahead. Surprises and changes will never surprise the author of handwriting. He is characterized by inventive, inquisitive and quick thinking, rational and insightful approach. New ideas, wit and resourcefulness. However, a very strong introversion, combined with the sensitivity of nature, is striking. A person experiences difficulties in expressing his feelings, keeps all his strong and rich experiences in himself. The owner of the handwriting is drawn to improvisation, everything new, new knowledge and areas of science and everything that gives food to a rich imagination. This, combined with very fast thinking and perception, makes for this person everything that is ordinary or banal, familiar and routine, or predetermined (so desired for many people of other types, things) — into the most boring torture! This makes him impatient. Thinks globally. Not practical. Not «breakthrough». It is this one who will easily and without hesitation exchange everyday or material comfort for the prospect of interesting activities, self-development, intellectual values.
Introverted Logic Intuitive. High level of personality development. All auxiliary functions are developed, he is aware of his weaknesses, “leaves” on the rationalization of what is happening, insight and controlled will.
In this handwriting, the functions are manifested by the following features:
A combination of small letters, weak pressure, large distances between words, tightness of the central part of the letters.
Measured arrangement of words and spaces, partial separation of writing, large distance between lines, straight slope, large «scatter» of height (protruding upper and lower letter zones).
Threadlike and variability of forms, fluctuations in the slope and base of the letters. Maximum simplicity (almost not letters, but hints of them), weak pressure, thin lines. Non-standard and improvisation in style, inter-letter spaces and relationships between them. Lots of voids.

Handwriting description:
The most noticeable features of this handwriting are the large size, intensity and force of pressure, as well as the violation of the boundaries between the lines: the distances between them tend to decrease, while the expansion and “interference” of the lower processes of the previous line into the territory of the next one takes place. Stylization, shape, angularity and other features indicate a reduced writing speed.
The author of the handwriting is a noticeable and very dominant personality. Such a person has a strong will, does not doubt himself or his authority. Being in old age, he is also full of vitality and optimism, as in his youth. Extremely practical, realistic and serious in everything. He has good hands — is talented in applied or physical activities, has technical abilities. Can «everything»: build a house and feed a family. He is very thorough and critical of himself and others, sometimes to the point of pedantry. Fair, but strict and often behaves in an authoritarian manner, subconsciously copying the behavior of his strict father. He is characterized by thoughtfulness, thoroughness, he will not allow himself a word or deed — without first considering the consequences. Reliable, as far as a person can be reliable: both in intelligence, and to entrust state secrets — only to such. Usually he wants his word or opinion to be decisive. The author of the handwriting is somewhat simple, neither outwardly nor intellectually refined. Does not use or understand subtle humor, from the outside it may seem either “too serious and important”, or naive and “clumsy” in a relationship. If he is friends with you — it’s more accurate and reliable not to find a comrade, he will become a real “protection and support” for you.
Extroverted Sensory Logic. The average level of personality development. Auxiliary function appears from time to time.
In this handwriting, the functions are manifested by the following features:
The general dominance of handwriting on paper, almost no margins, large letter size and emphasis on the center of letters, reduced distances between words (less than average — the norm between words is approximately two letters of the considered handwriting).
Small (close) gaps between lines, letters. Developed and accentuated lower zone of letters, «overlapping» of this zone on adjacent lines. Intensity, strong pressure.
Rhythm, regularity, reduced writing speed, partial separation, form detail, readability, punctuation and organization.
