Halset – composition and action

The active ingredient in Halset is a compound called cetylpirydyna. It is a substance that shows disinfecting properties and belongs to the group of quaternary ammonium compounds.

Cetylpyridine has antibacterial and antifungal properties. It fights against gram-positive, gram-negative bacteria, also works against fungi (Candida albicans), but has no effect on mycobacteria.

This compound inhibits the metabolism of bacteria. Cetylpyridine blocks important enzymatic systems, affects cytoadhesive mechanisms and increases the permeability of the cytoplasmic membrane of microorganisms, destroying it.

Its properties are used to combat inflammation of the oral mucosa, gums and throat.

One lozenge contains 1,5 mg of cetylpyridine. The other ingredients of Halset are sorbitol, peppermint oil, menthol and magnesium stearate. The drug does not contain sugar, sorbitol, a semi-synthetic sweetener, is responsible for its sweet taste. The caloric value of Halset is 2,6 kcal / g of sorbitol.

This compound is also deactivated by anionic substances and lipids.
