Halloween Pumpkin Cream Liqueur – 2 Best Recipes

This article is for those who decided to celebrate Halloween at home, created the appropriate atmosphere, prepared a costume and called friends, but completely forgot that guests need to be treated with something and it is desirable to do this in accordance with the festive paraphernalia. Within an hour or two you will get a stunning, delicate, aromatic liqueur with a distinct pumpkin flavor. However, at any other get-together, pumpkin cream liqueur will undoubtedly become a hit and cause praise for the owner.

Pumpkin cream liqueur is not new. It is adored not only in the USA, where dishes and drinks from the autumn fruit are elevated to a cult, but also far beyond their borders. They drink it not only on Halloween, when it is most relevant, but also on any other revered holiday, especially at Christmas. Remarkably, not many people prepare it, because buying a pumpkin cream liqueur for a bourgeois is like twice two – a whole horde of distilleries is engaged in its production. In the US, these are: Pennsylvania Dutch, Fulton’s Harvest, Heritage Hill, Mothers, Forbidden Secret and Maya. It is also prepared in Ireland, under the auspices of Molly’s and the well-known manufacturer of delicious creamy liqueurs Baileys. We rarely have such outlandish drinks, so we will prepare them ourselves. Especially since Halloween is right around the corner!

Pumpkin puree for liqueurs and more

The basis of all pumpkin cream liqueurs is always pumpkin puree. We will start with its preparation. First you need to preheat the oven to 190оC. Take a whole pumpkin, wash it, cut off the stem and cut it in half. Remove seeds and fibers from each half. Place the pumpkin halves on a baking sheet, place in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes, until the skin is dark and wrinkled. Take out the baked halves, let them cool and easily get the pulp with a regular spoon. Then it needs to be pureed in a blender for about 30 seconds, until a beautiful homogeneous mass is obtained. Pumpkin puree for liqueurs and future culinary masterpieces is ready!

If you don’t have an oven, you can make mashed potatoes in another way. Take a pumpkin of any size and cut its flesh into small cubes, about 2,5 cm each. Transfer the cubes to a saucepan of a suitable volume and fill with water so that it completely covers the pumpkin. Cook over medium heat until cooked (until the cubes are soft). After that, pumpkin can be mashed in a blender, as described above. Pumpkin puree will keep for up to 7 days in the refrigerator. From a fruit weighing 1,3-1,5 kg, about 500 ml of puree is obtained.

So, the puree is ready. It’s time for liquor!

Homemade spicy pumpkin cream liqueur with rum

A versatile recipe with which you can experiment endlessly. First of all, you can safely take another alcoholic base, because dark rum is not a cheap pleasure. The same spiced rum, which will cost an order of magnitude cheaper, will fit perfectly into the concept of a creamy spiced liquor. You can greatly reduce the price of a drink if you use homemade preparations: ersatz rum or, say, homemade Becherovka. As for spices, here it is a standard set of spices for pumpkin pie. This mixture can be prepared in advance in large quantities and used not only for making drinks, but also for baking. In the following recipe you will find instructions on how to make such a mixture yourself. Well, let’s go!

  • 250 ml heavy cream (20%)
  • 250 ml pumpkin puree
  • 80 g confectioner’s sugar
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp grated nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp ground cloves
  • ¼ tsp ground allspice
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract (8 g vanilla sugar)
  • 500 ml dark rum

Place cream, sugar, pumpkin puree and spices in a saucepan and place over low heat. Stirring constantly, heat until a homogeneous mass is obtained, do not bring to a boil. Let the mixture cool and add the rum. Mix well, strain through a sieve and pour into clean bottles. You can drink liquor after 1-2 hours of exposure in the refrigerator, but it is better to leave it there overnight. The shelf life of liqueur in the refrigerator is from 1 month.
