Gypsy advice: a mystical tale of greed

😉 Greetings to regular and new readers! “Gypsy Council” is a mystical story that took place over fifty years ago.

About the power of words, about greed and betrayal

The widow Antonina with her daughter and two teenage sons came to a village in the Urals. Her husband died at the front. Since life in the city after the war was very difficult, the woman decided to move to the village: at least there you can grow vegetables in the garden, but have a cow.

In the village, Antonina got a job with the gypsy Raisa. Among her fellow villagers, Raisa was known as “shuvani”, which means “witch”. Tonya worked at her house, washed, cooked, cleaned, weeded the garden.

Raisa always paid accurately, sometimes giving some food and clothes for the children. And, probably, the demon beguiled Antonina, she began to complain endlessly to the gypsy about her hard life. It seemed to the woman that the compassionate “shuvani” would give her more expensive gifts.

– Eh, if I had one child, and not three hungry mouths, I would not be so poor, – she said in her hearts. – And why did she give birth to so many children?

Meanwhile, thanks to the work of Raisa, the young widow’s affairs were on the mend. A gypsy woman would sometimes throw in a piece of meat, then give potatoes, or even give an advance payment in excess of the norm. And somehow, before Easter, Antonina again began to complain about life, hoping to get more eggs and flour for cakes from Raisa.

– Ton, and you really regret that you have three children, are you cunning? The gypsy suddenly asked.

– Yes, here’s a cross for you, – Antonina overshadowed herself with the sign of the cross. “I’m not lying to her,” although she perfectly understood that she was lying — the woman loved all three children very much. – After all, I plow like an ox day and night, in order to feed them all, clothe, and shoe.

And Fedka and Pashka generally got out of hand. To school, over there, again to the director summoned. I hump on them, and here it is, their gratitude. And they don’t marry me just because of this. And I’m not old yet, I also want love.

Two eggs

– Well, since you really suffer so much because of the children, here’s my advice. Take these two boiled eggs and say: “One egg is Paul, the second egg is Fedor” and feed them to the dog right now. And your torment will end.

Antonina stared fearfully at Raisa, who continued:

– So, you are dissembling, dear. Decided to push for pity, beg more gifts from me? All the same, you are cunning Tonka!

Burning with shame that the gypsy had exposed her, Antonina burst into tears, but did not retreat:

– Well, you shouldn’t believe me, Raya. I’m very tired.

– Well, go ahead, do as I said and you will get rid of your torment, – Raisa grinned.

Tonya, so as not to look like a liar, took two boiled eggs in her hands and said the “cherished” words. She immediately cleaned them and fed them to the yard dog. And two weeks later Pasha and Fedya died (drowned while fishing). The gypsy’s advice came true.

Night guests

The woman, as best she could, drove away from herself the thought that it was she who was to blame for their death. But one night she was awakened by footsteps. She opened her eyes and stood up. Pasha and Fedya were standing next to her bed, each holding a painted egg in his hands.

Tonya screamed shrilly and fainted. Her daughter came running to her cry, and the first thing she saw upon entering her mother’s room were two painted eggs, they were lying on the bedside table.

The woman turned gray that night. She could not clearly explain to her daughter what happened. And what can I say? That, because of greed and betrayal, sent her sons to the next world? Antonina kept these colored eggs for a long time in memory of her boys.
