The necessity to report a pregnancy with a lethal fetal defect is a situation in which we force a woman to let the fetus die after giving birth, so the phrase “do not make mothers into coffins” seems very justified – explains Maciej Jędrzejko, MD, PhD, gynecologist. The doctor was a guest of Iwona Kutyna in the Onet Rano program.
– As a gynecologist with eighteen years of experience, I accompany patients both in miscarriages and in situations in which we diagnose that the fetus is severely damaged, has a lethal defect and we are unable to help – explained the doctor. He also added that the recent decision of the Constitutional Tribunal will boil down to this in practice.
– We are not allowed to do this, it is against medical ethics, modern science, and common sense – he explained. – Where we fight for newborns, we spend PLN 15 a day on newborns, which promise to be saved, when we use ampoules of PLN 10 each, we do not hesitate. However, where life cannot be saved, forcing a mother to be an incubator for a corpse is an inhuman behavior and an idea unworthy of a civilized country – said Iwona Kutyna’s guest in the Onet Rano program.
