Gynazol – a vaginal antifungal agent

Gynazol is a drug with a broad spectrum of antifungal activity. The preparation is used vaginally in the topical treatment of vulvovaginal fungal infections.

Composition of Gynazol

The main active ingredient of Gynazol is butoconazole nitrate.

Gynazol – indications for use

Vaginal and vulvar infections caused by Candida albicans.

Gynazol – action

Gynazol to imidazole derivative with antifungal activity. The spectrum of action is Candida infections. The drug also has antibacterial activity against some bacteria. The mechanism of action is based on the inhibition of lanosterol 14α-demethylase, which leads to the inhibition of the biosynthesis of ergosterol – the most important sterol in the fungal cell membrane. As a consequence, the permeability changes and the function of the cell membrane is disturbed.

After insertion into the vagina, the drug lasts for about 4 days, during which the active substance is released. The drug is minimally absorbed into the bloodstream.

Sexual abstinence is recommended during treatment with Gynazol.

Gynazol – contraindications

Contraindications are: hypersensitivity to butoconazole or any of the ingredients of the preparation, pregnancy and breastfeeding (only with the doctor’s approval).

Gynazol – dosage

The drug is intended for intravaginal administration. It is sold in the form of a cream. The entire content of the applicator should be introduced at one time, preferably at bedtime. Use the tip applicator that is originally attached and gently pull on the ring to pull the plunger completely out. The applicator should be carefully inserted into the vagina, as far as possible but without pain. It is more convenient to carry out the application in a lying position. Then slowly depress the plunger so that the cream is inserted into the vagina. The applicator should be removed from the vagina after the application is completed.

During treatment, it is recommended to abstain from sexual activity and to start treatment also in the partner of the sick person. Before using the preparation, microbiological tests should be carried out to confirm infection with a given pathogen.

The price of Gynazol ranges from PLN 32,99 to PLN 37,99 for a 20 mg / h cream, 5g with an applicator.
