Gynalgin – composition, action, use, contraindications, side effects

Vaginal infections and inflammations are very common. Various medicinal preparations are used to counteract them. Gynalgin is one of them. What are the properties of this drug? What does the leaflet describe? Here are some of the most important things to know before taking the drug.

Gynalgin – co to za lek?

Gynalgin is a drug used to treat vaginal infections caused by bacteria (including Escherichia coli, Steptococcus beta hemolytic), Trichomonas vaginalis and fungi, individually or simultaneously. The active substances of the preparation are chloroquinaldol and metronidazole – both substances have antibacterial and antiprotozoal properties.

Gynalgin – how to apply?

Gynalgin is a drug for adults and it should not be used by women under 18 years of age. The dose for an adult is 1 tablet a day – it is recommended not to take it in the morning. Treatment with Gynalgin should be started after the end of menstruation (2 to 4 days) and continued for 10 days. The dose does not need to be changed due to old age or impaired liver and kidney function.

There is a possibility of side effects after taking Gynalgin, but there are no studies to determine how often side effects occur. Many women taking the drug reported the same complications: sleep disturbances, headaches, muscle cramps, diarrhea, constipation, itchy skin, dry mouth, less appetite, fatigue and vaginal fluid leakage.

Gynalgin – precautions

To reduce the risk of side effects, follow precautions during treatment. Women with liver failure should be especially careful – in this case there is a risk of metronidazole excess in the body. Caution should also be exercised by women who, during a medical interview, show that they have changes in the blood composition.

You definitely should not take the drug in more than the recommended dose. It is also harmful to use the drug for too long. Gynalgina contains chloroquinaldol which can induce subacute spinaloptic neuropathy. The drug should not be combined with alcohol, as there is a high probability that it will cause a disulfiram reaction, the symptoms of which are, among others, nausea and pressure drop.

Gynalgin – contraindications and interactions with other drugs

The drug should not be taken by people who are allergic to at least one of the ingredients of the drug. Women who are pregnant or think they may be pregnant should consult their doctor before taking Gynalgin. It is not a drug to be used during pregnancy, unless necessary. Caution in the use of the drug should also be exercised by breastfeeding women.

How to store Gynalgin?

Gynalgin, like other drugs, should be stored in a clean, dry and ventilated room. In order for the drug not to be damaged, it should be protected against sunlight, dust, dirt and direct contact with the floor and wall.

Gynalgin should always be kept in its original packaging and kept out of the reach of children and pets. The part of the package with the expiry date is especially important – do not tear it off. The drug should not be placed close to a window and wherever there is moisture. The temperature at which the medicine is best stored should be between 15 and 25 degrees Celsius.

How to apply Gynalgin?

The application of Gynalgin is not complicated – it is recommended to do it in the evening. It may be inconvenient to use the drug during the day, although it is not prohibited. During daily activity, Gynalgin will dissolve inside the vagina and turn into a liquid state – as a result, it can leak out and soil your underwear. The aforementioned sanitary napkin or liner can be used to protect the linen from getting dirty.

Gynalgin should be inserted deep into the vagina. If it is placed too shallow, it will not be able to work to its full potential and will not affect the entire vagina. Hands should be washed thoroughly before applying the drug – many women admit that they put on gynalgin when using the toilet.

Gynalgin is best applied during the evening bath, just before going to bed or shortly before going to bed. Inserting the medicine is similar to inserting a tampon or vaginal globule, so getting the correct position should not be a problem for any of the ladies. However, you can apply the medicine while lying down and your muscles are relaxed. An obstacle in the application of Gynalgin may be long nails and tips that can damage the vaginal epithelium.
