Some styling products look and are called more than strange. Chewing gum, clay, souffle, powder – this is not an assortment of goods for pranks, but quite effective preparations. You just need to learn how to use them.
Until recently, the entire set of styling products consisted of three products: gel, mousse and hairspray. A little later, they had different subspecies, which differed in the degree of fixation, composition, and elasticity. Our styling arsenals expanded quite slowly. The revolutionary products of those years can be counted on the fingers: structuring wax, serum for the ends of the strands, root volume sprays and … perhaps everything. But at some point, everything changed: the world of styling began to rapidly replenish with radically new drugs. It would seem that special? Such changes are taking place in all cosmetic segments: until recently, we did not know about sheet masks and facial oils, as well as about shellac instantly hardening on nails. But the highlight of the styling “newcomers” turned out to be that they relied not only on practicality, but also on outrageousness. Everything about them turned out to be unexpected and unusual: from the effects that the products created on the hair to textures and, most importantly, wonderful names. “Gum, clay, soufflé, hair powder – for professionals it sounds as routine as mousse or varnish. By the way, I won’t be surprised that at the first appearance, these classic products caused a smile, being associated with dessert or furniture polish, – stylist Marcel Zinnurov recalls the history of the emergence of funny styling products. – Initially, all these clay chewing gums were invented in force majeure circumstances from improvised means by the stylists themselves. Most often this happened on the set or backstage of shows to create complex or avant-garde styling. That is why the names of such products were simple and associative. Only then these inventions were finalized in the laboratories of large corporations, which made their composition balanced and harmless to hair. Many extravagant at first glance products are designed for express styling without a hair dryer, tongs, irons. Others are created for the individual characteristics of the hair and are designed for the most demanding and meticulous customers. But in fact, it’s not that difficult to understand the newfangled styling products.
Bright accents
Colored strands have become a fashion trend, which are easy to make with a special gel or chalk. You can color individual curls, bangs or ends of strands – all products are easily washed off with shampoo. Relevant red, blue, purple and other most cardinal colors. Gum for hair
A product with a teenage name is aimed at a completely adult audience. Its viscous texture is made up of microfibers that form a kind of three-dimensional mesh. It is literally woven into the hair, making it elastic. The tool is suitable for any type of hair that needs mobile fixation and plastic. In other words, it tames unruly strands, but does not make them static and rigid. With “chewing gum” on your hair, you can famously change the parting, throw it back or, conversely, cover half your face, and it will look absolutely natural.
Hair powder
It comes loose or in the form of a spray in a bottle. In the first case, a small amount of powder must be rubbed in the palms so that it turns into a homogeneous substance. Then use your fingers to work through the hair, creating volume or making curls of curly hair. This powder is ideal for long hair, as it does not overload or stick together the strands. But at the same time, styling with it lasts a long time. The powder in the spray, as a rule, is designed to create the effect of tousled hair. It is sprayed from the middle to the ends of the strands, which are then whipped to your taste.
salt spray
Have you noticed that during boat trips, our hair noticeably changes texture, becoming stiffer and denser? This effect is given by sprays based on sea salt. They make strands dense, “crisp” and ideal for bouffant. And therefore they will come to the rescue when creating evening and even wedding styling.
Clay
No dirt – hair clay is absolutely invisible to the eye. But what effects! There are two types of clay: matte and wet. The first is ideal for short haircuts, which she can both gently ruffle and tame. At the same time, unlike wax, clay does not give a greasy effect and allows you to pull and smooth hair with your hands as much as you like. Its texture resembles hard plasticine, and before use it must be warmed up in the palms of your hands or with a hairdryer. Apply from roots to ends. Wet clay has a viscous consistency and contains more water, which is generously shared with our strands. Therefore, it is ideal for styling long, curly hair: it leaves them mobile and at the same time removes “electricity”.

Dry shampoo
Created once as a force majeure substitute for regular shampoo, it did not justify the trust placed in it. Dry shampoos did not clean my hair so hot, leaving a whitish coating and making it dull. But it was these qualities that became relevant when matte hair came into fashion. As a result, dry shampoo turned from a hygiene product into a styling product. It removes oily sheen, gives volume and allows you to “refresh” styling during the day.
This is not a complete list of avant-garde styling products. The main thing is not to reject them from the threshold because of the names, but immediately be interested in the result. And if you learn how to masterfully combine chewing gum with powder on your hair, and sea spray with cement (yes, there are such tools), you can create fashionable styling and complex hairstyles no worse than a professional stylist.
