Phytoplankton are unicellular algae that make up 90% of the entire living mass of the World Ocean. It is with them that the nutritional chain in the marine biosystem begins. Phytoplankton will disappear, life will disappear in all water bodies of the planet. But let’s leave biologists to study the importance of phytoplankton as a necessary component of life on Earth. We are more interested in this representative of microflora from a cosmetic point of view.
Phytoplankton is rightfully called the concentrate of many vital micro and macro elements. Moreover, all these useful ingredients are concentrated not artificially, but by nature itself. For example, no other cell has such a high content of magnesium, sodium, calcium, various protein compounds, omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins A, C and E. Just in case, we recall that the same magnesium and calcium help to improve metabolism in the skin, in particular in fibroblasts – cells that are responsible for the “production” of collagen and elastin. The latter, in turn, will preserve the firmness and elasticity of the skin. Sodium provides moisture retention, a decrease in the level of which slows down metabolic processes and leads to decrepit skin.
Vitamins A and C act as active assistants in maintaining these functions. Well, vitamin E is the main regenerator. Vitamin E, being a powerful antioxidant, is able to bind free radicals (deformed cellular molecules) that accelerate aging, preventing healthy protein molecules from functioning normally.
These are just some of the truly inexhaustible possibilities that phytoplankton have. And since all the ingredients in the cells are naturally selected, phytoplankton are especially valuable in the manufacture of facial cosmetics. The skin of the face is the most delicate, and therefore it does not tolerate the effects of various artificial compounds, but at the same time, it needs active care and nutrition. In other words, comprehensive protection. And phytoplankton copes with this task better than others.
