Guajazyl – syrup for a moist cough. How to use?

Guajazyl syrup is an expectorant drug used in a moist cough. The active substance is guaifenesin. It increases the secretion of mucus in the respiratory tract while reducing its viscosity, which ultimately facilitates expectoration. Do not give this medicine to children under 6 years of age. The preparation is in the form of an over-the-counter syrup.

Guajazyl syrup is an expectorant drug recommended for use in coughing.

Use of the drug

Guajazyl syrup is a syrup to be taken by mouth. Do not exceed the recommended dose of the preparation as it may pose a threat to your life or health.

  1. Adults and children after 12 years of age 15 ml 3-4 times / day.
  2. Children 6-12. 5 ml 3-4 × / day

Guajazyl syrup and contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the drug is a contraindication to taking Guajazyl syrup.

Guajazyl syrup – warnings

  1. If the cough persists for more than a week, is accompanied by fever, rash and persistent pain, please consult your doctor.
  2. Smokers, patients with bronchial asthma, chronic pneumonia and emphysema should take the drug only after consulting a doctor.
  3. Diabetics should be careful as the drug contains sucrose.
  4. People with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine.
  5. The drug Guajazyl syrup contains ethanol, therefore it should not be used in children up to 6 years of age, in people with liver failure, brain damage, epilepsy, mental illness and alcoholics.
  6. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should also not take the drug due to the presence of ethanol.
  7. The ethanol syrup contained in the drug Guajazyl (1 tablespoon contains 562 mg of ethanol) may impair psychomotor performance and the ability to drive and operate machinery.

Guajazyl syrup with other drugs

  1. Caution is advised when taking the drug with phenylpropanolamine in people with hypertension, heart disease, peripheral vascular diseases, prostatic hyperplasia, in patients with glaucoma and diabetics.
  2. Drug metabolism products may influence the results of some laboratory tests (5-HIAA, VMA).

Guajazyl syrup – side effects
