– Last year, Poland stopped the virus from March to September. This lockdown in March, with an enormous effort by society as a whole, made us one of the few countries in the world to stop the pandemic. This is a paradox, because now we have denied this strategy and a year and a half later the pandemic is completely out of control, said Dr. Paweł Grzesiowski, an expert of the Supreme Medical Chamber on COVID-19, who was a guest of Iwona Kutyna in the “Onet Rano” program today.
The 250 deaths recorded on Thursday only testify to how little we know about the current wave – commented Grzesiowski on yesterday’s number of deaths. – If 250 people died, then 25 people must have been infected 3 weeks earlier. Then the data said about 2-3 thousand. infected, which means that the underestimation of the number of infected is enormous. Then we were doing 25-35 thousand. testing a day, many people still avoid testing. Now the number of tests is growing, yesterday there were 70 thousand of them, but this means that we find out about the infection late, only when someone dies or goes to the hospital, the test is performed.
As Grzesiowski explained, everything indicates that the daily data on the number of infected are underestimated 5-6 times and this is the result of too few tests.
