We cannot talk about the end of the fifth wave, it is too early to lift the restrictions, said Paweł Grzesiowski, an expert of the Supreme Medical Council on COVID-19. Jka explained, lifting isolation when the virus is known to be contagious for up to 14 days has no scientific or medical basis.
Grzesiowski was asked on Radio Zet about the declaration of the Minister of Health, Adam Niedzielski, that he had presented the Prime Minister a proposal to lift from the beginning of April restrictions on the wearing of masks, quarantine and isolation. In an interview with Radio Plus on Thursday, the head of the Ministry of Health said that the lack of an increase in the hospital burden “opens up some space for further decisions related to masks and the transition from an epidemic to an epidemic emergency”.

«Not the first one the minister signals something that is not in line with the current situation and current knowledge. It is certainly not the moment to announce the end of the pandemic »- said Dr. Grzesiowski.

«We cannot speak of the end of the fifth wave, but rather a correction of morbidity resulting from school breaks and the return of children, and the effects of migration. Dr. Grzesiowski stated that abolishing isolation, when it is known that the virus is contagious for up to 14 days, has no scientific and medical basis.
«There is no quarantine, which may also result in the correction we see. The lack of quarantine and the reduction of isolation to seven days without testing means that some people are contagious, although the period of isolation has expired »- he noted.
«Personally, I think that the voice of experts is clearly missing, which corrected these dreamy plans of the minister, because they are supposed to breathe optimism into the society, but they are now absolutely not up to date»- he emphasized.

He expressed the conviction that the pandemic wave will last for several weeks and during this time, for example, masks in closed rooms cannot be abandoned, because it is still the main non-pharmacological method of fighting the pandemic.
Grzesiowski pointed out that the countries of Western Europe, which have lifted most of the restrictions, observe a radical increase in the number of cases and the number of hospitalizations.

Rather, ahead of us is another correction of the fifth wave, that is perhaps the sixth wave, though probably not as high as the fifth one. But we can certainly not talk about the pandemic silencing, the disappearance of the virus and a good mood, that there is no threat »- emphasized the expert.
«Let us remember that we have over 2 million people in Poland, of which only no more than 10 percent. is vaccinated. These are also candidates for getting sick. People from testing points say that every third citizen of Ukraine is positive if he or she presents for the test because of symptoms, ”said Grzesiowski. Certainly, announcing and announcing the possibility of lifting all pandemic restrictions is – as he stressed – premature.
The expert recommends strict supervision of reception centers, where – as he said – there should be testing points and vaccination points.
“We should also provide isolation places for sick people from Ukraine,” he said. He noted that besides COVID-19, there are also other infectious diseases.
“Some of the children from Ukraine should be vaccinated right away,” he indicated.
