Growing tulips can bring quite a significant income. Especially if you guess the planting and get flowers for the March holidays. But, to be successful, it will take a lot of effort and ensure that the plants are properly cared for.

Rules for growing tulips in a greenhouse

The time to plant the bulbs depends on when you want to harvest the flowers. If you need tulips for the New Year holidays, plant them in early September. To get flowers for March day, plant at the end of November. But, before planting the bulbs, they should be prepared. To do this, hold the flowers for 30 minutes in a solution of celandine or potassium permanganate.

Growing tulips in a greenhouse requires constant attention

Do not use last year’s or regular soil for the greenhouse. It is better to plant flowers in a disinfected substrate consisting of peat, perlite, river sand and sawdust. Tulips are planted in pots:

  1. Fill the containers with soil 2/3 full.
  2. Gently plant the bulbs peeled from the lower scales to a depth of 3-4 cm.
  3. Cover with soil to the top.
  4. Moisten the soil well and place the containers in a room with a temperature of 7-9 ° C.

Keep flowers cool for 16 to 22 weeks. During this period, it is important to maintain optimal humidity and air temperature. To prevent the soil from drying out, water the floor, walls and soil 2 times a week. The lighting shouldn’t be too bright.

Conditions for growing tulips

Three weeks before the expected flowering, the flower pots must be transferred to the greenhouse. As a rule, this happens when the height of the stem reaches 9-10 cm. If the time has come, but the plants have not developed too much, then they are transferred to a warm room and covered with a black film for 2-3 days. Forcing rules:

  • Maintain the temperature at 2-3 ° C for the first 12-14 days, then raise it to 18 ° C.
  • Give your flowers 10-12 hours of daylight.
  • Water the crops daily with water at a temperature of + 20 ° C.
  • If using tap water, let it sit for 5 days.
  • Avoid getting moisture on the leaves when watering.
  • Feed your tulips with liquid bulb preparation.

If you need to speed up the flowering of plants, then moisturize them 2-3 times a day. If you want, on the contrary, to suspend the growth of crops, lower the temperature in the greenhouse to + 12 ° C.

Growing tulips in a greenhouse by a certain date is not that difficult. The main thing is to create optimal conditions for bulbs and young plants.
