When choosing pea seeds for planting, you need to understand for what purpose you are growing it.

Seeds are divided into two groups:

  • Peeling. These peas boil well. They are used for making soups, freezing and canning.
  • Sugar. The pods have delicate sweet flaps. They can be eaten fresh along with unripe shutters. Due to the high sugar and moisture content, this group is more susceptible to diseases and pests.

Representatives of the peeling group are the varieties: “Avola”, “Adagumsky”, “Vega”, “Premium”, “Early Gribovsky” and “Khavsky pearls”.

Among the sugar group, the following varieties have proven themselves well: “Inexhaustible 195”, “Oregon”, “Sugar” and “Sugar 2”.

Peas belong to the legume family, and their advantage is that they do not deplete the soil, but increase its fertility by enriching it with nitrogen.

Peas normally tolerate light frosts, so they can be planted from late April to early July.

To grow peas in the garden, he needs to provide:

  • Lots of warmth and light.
  • Watering. In hot weather, be sure to water it. With a lack of water, flowers and ovaries fall off.
  • Support. If the shoots do not cling to the support, but lie on the ground, then the fruits will rot. Also, thanks to the support, the plant is ventilated and warmed up, which is important for its proper growth.
  • Top dressing. As soon as the plant reaches a height of 10 cm, it must be fed. In the future, it does not need fertilization.

Peas are easy to grow when you consider their needs.

It is necessary to sow seeds in April, when the soil still stores the moisture necessary for germination of the peas. Fruits will appear two weeks after planting. To increase yields, young, ripe pods must be plucked every day.

The peas can be harvested when the lower pods are ripe and dry. The land on which the peas grew will become more fertile for the vegetables planted next year.

Pea seeds are a source of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and vegetable protein. But peas are grown not only for the sake of seeds, but also as green manure – a green fertilizer to increase soil fertility.
