Growing garden blueberries in the country
Blueberry or drunk berry, as it is called in the common people, is a perennial unpretentious plant. Its fruits are delicious and have medicinal properties. The correct cultivation of blueberries in the garden helps to obtain a high annual yield of these unique berries.
Description of garden blueberry
The length of the woody stem of a drunk berry is from 30 cm to 50 cm. Sometimes it grows up to 1 m. The plant can creep along the ground. Its oblong leaves are up to 30 mm long. They are very dense and thin. Blueberry buds are composed of five white or pink petals. The blue, round, sometimes oblong blueberries resemble blueberries.
Jam, juice and wine are made from blueberries. The most useful are the raw fruits of this plant. They help to cure and alleviate the course of many diseases:

Rules for growing blueberries in the country
You don’t need any special skills to grow blueberries. First you need to choose the right plant variety. In northern areas, Canadian berry grows well, and in temperate areas, higher varieties of shrubs, such as garden blueberries, can be grown.
It is better to plant a drunk berry in spring. Then she will have time to take root and get stronger before frost. A mixture of peat, sawdust, sand and sulfur is placed in a hole measuring 0,6 m by 0,6 m. The substrate is lightly tamped. The roots of the seedling are carefully straightened and sprinkled with earth. The soil is well watered and covered with a layer of straw, peat or sawdust.
You need to care for blueberries all year round:
- Watering. You need to water the bushes every 3 days. In the morning and in the evening, about 10 liters of water are poured under each plant.
- Pruning. The branches of the plant are cut in the spring before the buds swell on them. Weak and diseased shoots can be removed in summer.
- Warming. Blueberries can withstand frosts up to 25 ° C. In colder winters, cover the plant with a layer of straw or other material.
At temperatures from 0 to 4 ° C, fresh drunk berry fruits do not spoil for 14 days. Blueberries are frozen or dried. In this form, it can be stored throughout the year.
