Growing beans outdoors
Beans are one of the most valuable crops. Its fruits contain many vitamins and nutrients, as well as a huge amount of valuable vegetable protein. Growing beans is a fairly simple process that does not require any effort or specific knowledge. The culture is quite unpretentious and gives a high yield, practically not requiring attention to itself.
Rules for planting and growing beans in the open field
For a rich harvest, it is best to plant legumes in fertile soil. Beans do not tolerate wetlands, lowlands or dense clay soil. It is recommended to carry out planting work in late May – early June. Therefore, if you plan to plant beans with seedlings, then you should start growing sprouts 15-20 days before this date.
If you grow beans with seeds, do not forget to pre-soak them in water.
Before planting, it is recommended to prepare the site, for this, dig up and level the soil 2-3 days before starting work. The beans are planted in holes with a depth of 4-5 cm. The distance between the rows should reach 45-50 cm. After planting, the seeds need abundant watering. In order to speed up the sprouting process, it is recommended to cover the beds with polyethylene – this will create greenhouse conditions for the culture.
Growing and caring for beans
The plant needs almost no attention. It is enough just occasionally to water the bushes, as well as to weed the aisles, so that the culture will bring a rich harvest. The only point worth paying attention to is loosening the earth. It is important not to allow the appearance of a dried crust in the garden. Otherwise, little air will flow to the roots, and this will have a bad effect on the strength and growth of the plant.
In order to attract pollinating insects to the bushes, it is recommended to spray them with water with added sugar. This will significantly increase the yield of the crop.
As for watering, the beds should be moistened once a week. The approximate volume of water is 5-6 liters per sq. m. During the formation of ovaries and ripening of the beans, watering should be doubled. But it is not recommended to allow moisture stagnation. In addition, it is necessary to check the plants for the presence of diseases and pests.
Beans are a very valuable plant. With minimal maintenance, this crop gives the maximum amount of yield. You don’t need any special knowledge or skill to grow beans, and even a novice gardener will cope with this task.
