Groprinosin is used in viral infections, manifested in the form of herpes, herpes zoster, and chicken pox. The drug not only fights viruses, but also strengthens the body’s immunity. It is available in the form of tablets and a syrup. Treatment usually lasts from 5 to 14 days, but Groprinosin should be administered for another 1-2 days after the symptoms disappear.

Groprinosin – dosage

Groprinosin preparation in the form of a syrup:

1. Adults: 50 mg / kg body weight daily, usually 3 g (60 ml of syrup) daily, divided into 3-4 doses. The maximum dose of Groprinosin is 4 g per day (i.e. 80 ml of syrup per day).
2. Children after 1 year of age: 50 mg / kg body weight daily in 3-4 divided doses. Dosing schedule depending on the child’s weight: body weight 10-14 kg: 5 ml 3 times a day; body weight 15-20 kg: 5-7,5 ml 3 times a day; body weight 21-30 kg: 7,5-10 ml 3 times a day; body weight 31-40 kg: 10-15 ml 3 times a day; body weight 41-50 kg: 15-17,5 ml 3 times a day.

Groprinosin in the form of tablets:

Groprinosin – warnings

1. Groprinosin may cause transient increases in uric acid levels in the blood and urine, especially in men and in the elderly of both genders.
2. Groprinosin (syrup) contains sucrose, therefore people with hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take it.
3. Groprinosin usually has no influence on the ability to drive vehicles and operate machines, however, if side effects such as headache, dizziness or drowsiness occur, do not drive or operate machinery / machines.
4. Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use the medicine unless considered essential by the doctor.
5. During a treatment period of 3 months or more, uric acid levels in the blood and urine, liver function, blood count and renal function parameters should be regularly monitored in each patient.

1. drugs that increase the urinary excretion of uric acid, including diuretics (including thiazide diuretics such as, for example, hydrochlorothiazide, chlorthalidone, indapamide, and loop diuretics such as, for example, furosemide, torasemide, ethacrynic acid);
2. allopurinol or other xanthine oxidase inhibitors;
3. Do not use Groprinosin while taking immunosuppressive drugs (suppressing the immune system response), such as certain drugs used after organ transplants or in the treatment of atopic dermatitis;
4. the use of drugs in parallel with azidothymidine (AZT) enhances the effect of AZT.

Groprinosin – side effects

During the treatment with Groprinosin, the following may appear: increase in uric acid concentration, normalizing within a few days after discontinuation of the preparation, nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, increased liver enzymes, increased blood urea nitrogen levels, headache and dizziness, fatigue, malaise, joint pain, itching, rash. Uncommonly possible: diarrhea, constipation, nervousness, drowsiness, insomnia, increased urine volume.
