The fall and winter season is a time when we are exposed to catching a cold or flu. The drug used for the short-term treatment of cold and flu symptoms is Gripblocker. What is this product characterized by? What is the action of Gripblocker and what side effects can its use have?

Characteristics of Gripblocker capsules

Gripblocker is a medicine used for the short-term treatment of flu or a cold. Gripblocker is a multi-ingredient medicine that contains three active substances: paracetamol, pseudoephedrine and dextromethorphan. The other ingredients of Gripblocker are excipients such as: macrogol 400, glycerol, propylene glycol, povidone K17, purified water, gelatin, non-crystallising liquid sorbitol, cochineal red E124. Gripblocker comes in the form of soft, oblong capsules characterized by a smooth and shiny surface with a red color. The drug is sold in a pharmacy without a prescription in a package containing 10 or 20 capsules. Gripblocker is intended for the treatment of adults and adolescents and should not be given to children under 6 years of age. The dosage of the drug should be in accordance with the information contained in the package leaflet or in accordance with the doctor’s recommendation. Gripblocker is used orally and in the case of adults and adolescents over 12 years of age the dose should not exceed 1 to 2 capsules, 3 to 4 times a day. Children from 6 to 12 years of age should not exceed the dose of 1 capsule 3 to 4 times a day. Do not exceed the dose of 8 capsules in adults and adolescents over 12 years of age, and children from 6 to 12 years of age should not exceed the dose of more than 4 capsules a day.

Action of Gripblocker capsules

Gripblocker is used in the emergency treatment of symptoms of colds, flu, flu-like conditions and inflammation of the paranasal sinuses. Gripblocker relieves the symptoms accompanying the above diseases. Thanks to its composition, it has an analgesic, antipyretic and antitussive effect, restores the patency of the nasal passages and paranasal sinuses, reduces the amount of mucus, as well as nasal congestion and swelling. Please note that Gripblocker cannot be used in all of the above symptoms. Gripblocker must not be used in children under 6 years of age, in pregnant or breast-feeding women, in people with ischemic heart disease, hypertension, and liver or kidney failure. Gripblocker should not be used also by people who are allergic to any component of the drug and in combination with a drug containing paracetamol or, in the case of parallel use, or in the last 2 weeks, MAO inhibitors.

Side effects that may occur after using Gripblocker

The first group of side effects that can occur in an overdose of Gripblocker are nausea, vomiting, excessive sweating, drowsiness, general weakness, anxiety and tremors. In case of overdose, these symptoms may resolve the next day, although liver damage may develop. Gripblocker, like any other drug, may have side effects despite the correct use of the drug. The most common side effects that may occur with Gripblocker are: increased heart rate, blood and lymphatic system disorders, somnolence, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, renal colic, acute renal failure, urolithiasis, skin allergic reactions, reddening of the skin, rash disorders, immune system disorders, anaphylactic reactions, respiratory disorders and disorders of the liver and bile ducts. It is worth noting that the use of this popular drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding is contraindicated.
