Green tea supports the brain?

The scientists invited 12 healthy men to the experiment and divided them into 2 groups – one drank the drink containing green tea extract, the second group drank the usual drink. Then, using MRI, the researchers looked at men’s brains at the time of the memory test. They found that compared to the “placebo” group, participants who drank green tea experienced greater activation in the brain zonewhich is responsible for the working memory we need when we focus and solve problems. But where does this effect of green tea come from? As scientists explain, we owe it polyphenols such as EGCG. Dr Stefan Borgwardt of the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland, co-author of the study, explains: Green tea may protect against degradation of neurotransmitters related to brain function, such as dopamine and epinephrine. It may also prevent plaques from accumulating in the brain that impair cognition.

Even though scientists have only looked at green tea extract, we should still think seriously about drinking one cup or two during the day.
