In the playroom of this eco-friendly nursery, the setting is simply idyllic to let Baby tread. Great innovation on the ground: rubber replaces the PVC pollutant! And no more toxic walls. Paints and varnishes are stamped NF environment, guaranteeing the absence of emanation of solvents or other toxins.
For an optimum visual atmosphere, in addition to a southern exposure to promote natural light, the ceiling bulbs – low consumption – copy natural light. Baby is not at risk of glare or headaches.
The little green “extras” of the nursery
Small daily actions guarantee the sustainable development and health of babies. Put together, each effort is a real beneficial windfall for the environment. You had to think about it!
- The war on plastic: Here, we favor natural wood. Chairs, tables and some toys are eco-friendly.
- No wasted water: As Karim Badène, the director of the nursery, puts it so well, “there is no age to become aware of the environment”. The sinks accessible to children are equipped with infrared controls: the water flow is only triggered when little hands pass under the tap. As for the toilets, toddlers are also entitled to a double-button flush.
- More natural hygiene: Zero wipes, therefore zero waste! Here, we favor the washcloth for the toilet of the little ones. A real solution to reduce the risk of allergies caused by chemical wipes … In terms of maintenance, laundry, detergent and dishwashing liquid are biodegradable.
The exception to organic: diapers They are not yet washable, it remains to find the company that will pick them up, wash them and deliver them. Today, municipal nurseries consume 15 to 20 million disposable diapers per year, or tons of waste. |
Organic food
On the baby menu: spinach, carrots, potatoes, minced steaks, Camembert, Emmenthal and apples… organic. Since 2005, these foods have been included in the meals of young gourmets, to offer them a balanced feast, free of pesticide residue and low in nitrates. Today, all the municipal collective nurseries in the capital have already switched to organic food. Rather exciting when you know that they bring together nearly 7 children!
Delivery … Even deliveries are in green fashion: 80% of them are provided by vehicles running on LPG. And as for the vast majority of Parisian nurseries, they only take place once a week. As a result, transport fell by 60% between 2005 and 2006. A good start to limiting atmospheric pollution!
Less waste
Cardboard on one side, plastic on the other. It is all the easier as the packaging is limited. No cardboard boxes around the small pots, no blister packs around the potatoes! Cheeses and yogurts come in reusable plastic boxes and wooden crates. Consequence: the waste produced by nurseries decreased by 60% from 2003 to 2006, mainly thanks to the disappearance of plastic bag pollutants!
