History of the Grasshopper cocktail
One of the oldest cocktails, whose history can be traced back to the very date of its creation.
Grasshopper was first mixed in a bar called “Tujax”, which is located in the US city of New Orleans.
This establishment – one of the oldest in the city – is distinguished by the fact that there are no chairs in it, only a long and high bar counter. The hallmark of the bar was also a mint cocktail, the recipe of which was known only there.
It is known for certain that already in the 80s of the XIX century this cocktail was popular throughout the city.
Its recipe was first published in 1907 by William Bootsby, nicknamed “Cocktail Bill”. Then he got his name – “grasshopper”.
It is easy to understand that it is so named because of the soft green color that the mint liqueur gives the cocktail.
Around 1950, the cocktail became popular throughout the southern states of the United States, and after the spread of American culture around the world, the cocktail became famous everywhere.
Variations of the cocktail Grasshopper
Flying Grasshopper – the cocktail includes vodka and no cream, in addition, it is served in a highball with a lot of ice.
