Grapes Platovsky

Platovsky grapes are a technical variety of a crop that brings a crop in the early stages. The variety was obtained by breeders by crossing the Gift of Magarach and Zaladende grapes. Alternative name – Early Dawn. The variety is valued for its good taste, resistance to frost, diseases and pests.

Characteristic of the variety

  • technical grade;
  • ultra-early ripening in 110 days;
  • medium bushes;
  • brushes of a cylindrical-conical shape;
  • clusters of medium density;
  • the average weight of the brush is 0,2 kg;
  • shoot ripening up to 80%;

  • acidity 8,9 g/l;
  • juicy pulp;
  • thin skin.

After ripening, the berries can remain on the bushes for a month. The Platovsky variety is used to produce dessert and table wine. The palatability of dry table wine is estimated at 8,4 points.

The Platovsky grape variety can withstand winter frosts down to -29 °C. In regions with colder winters, bushes need shelter.

Planting of grapes

Platovsky grapes are planted on a prepared site. A place for growing a crop is chosen taking into account the illumination, humidity and soil structure. When planting, mineral fertilizers must be applied.

Preparatory stage

For grapes, an illuminated area is chosen, located on the south, west or southwest side. Plants are not planted near fences or buildings. The permissible distance to fruit trees is 5 m.

The vineyard is not planted in the lowlands where moisture accumulates. When planting on a slope, its central part is taken away under the culture.

Important! Platovsky grape seedlings are purchased from trusted manufacturers.

Annual seedlings with a height of 0,5 m are suitable for planting. The thickness of the shoot is 6 cm, the length of the roots is 10 cm. The root system should not be overdried, and healthy buds should be located on the plant.

Landing work is carried out in October. It is allowed to plant a culture 10 days before a cold snap. Autumn planting is considered more preferable than spring. So the plants have time to take root before the onset of winter.

Order of work

A landing pit is being prepared for Platovsky grapes. It is dug up 2-3 weeks before planting.

Sequence of work:

  1. At the selected site, they dig a hole 80 cm in size and 60 cm deep.
  2. A drainage layer of expanded clay or pebbles 10 cm thick is placed at the bottom.
  3. A plastic pipe with a diameter of 6 cm is vertically dug in. Up to 15 cm of the length of the pipe is left above the surface.
  4. A bucket of compost, a glass of Nitrophoska and wood ash are added to the fertile soil.
  5. The pit is covered with soil mixture and left to shrink the soil.

Before planting, the Platovsky grape seedling is cut off, leaving 4 eyes. The roots of the plant are shortened a little and placed in a mash, consisting of 10 liters of water, 1 tsp. sodium humate and clay.

A mound of fertile land is poured into the pit, where the seedling is placed. Its roots are covered with soil and carry out abundant watering. At first, the soil under the plant is covered with plastic wrap. It is removed when the plant takes root.

Variety care

The yield of Platovsky grapes depends on planting care. Plants are watered and fed throughout the season. To prevent diseases, plantings are sprayed with special means. In autumn, pruning is performed to ensure optimal load on the plant.

Watering

For a month after planting, Platovsky grapes are watered every week with 5 liters of warm water. Then moisture is applied twice a month.

Adult grapes are watered several times during the season:

  • in the spring after removing the shelter;
  • a week before the buds open;
  • after flowering.

Consumption per bush – 4 liters of warm, settled water. Before watering, you can add 0,5 kg of wood ash to the water. It is better to water the grapes rarely, but use large volumes of water. Moisture should not be on the leaves and stems of plants.

Moisture is introduced using a pipe dug in when planting. In the absence of an irrigation system, special wells are prepared. Plants recede 30 cm from the trunk and make furrows to a depth of 25 cm. After watering, they are covered with earth.

When the berries begin to ripen, watering the plants is completely stopped. In autumn, before sheltering the grapes, the last watering is performed, which helps the plants to endure the winter.

Additional fertilizing

If fertilizers were used when planting grapes, then regular top dressing begins only for 3 years. By this time, the bushes will grow and begin to bear fruit. Mineral and organic substances are used for processing.

Scheme for feeding Platovsky grapes:

  • in early spring;
  • when forming buds;
  • when the first berries ripen.

In the spring, after the snow melts, Platovsky grapes are watered with slurry, to which 30 g of superphosphate and potassium salt are added. Instead of organics, urea or ammonium nitrate is used.

For subsequent treatments, only potash and phosphate fertilizers are used. Substances are applied in dry form to the soil or dissolved in water.

Platovsky grapes respond positively to foliar treatments. Plants are sprayed on the leaf with Novofert, Kemira or Aquarin complex preparations. For processing, choose a cloudy day or postpone the procedure for the evening.

Tying and trimming

The vine is tied to a support for ease of care. For this, supports are installed, between which the wire is pulled.

Branches are tied vertically, horizontally or in an arc. The shoots are attached to the trellis at an angle so that they are evenly illuminated by the sun and do not break under the weight of the crop.

In autumn, grapes are pruned in order to eliminate excess shoots. From 6 to 80 eyes are left on the bush. The branches are cut into 4 eyes.

Advice! When pruned in spring, the grapes produce so-called “tears”. As a result, the eyes turn sour, the yield decreases, and the plant may die.

In the spring, only dry and frozen branches are removed. In the summer, weak and barren stepchildren are removed. To improve the taste properties, the leaves covering the clusters with berries are cut off.

Shelter for the winter

Grapes of the Platovsky variety are sheltered in regions with cold or little snow winters. Plants are cut and removed from the lashes. The culture tolerates a temperature drop to +7 ° С.

The bushes are spudded with earth, metal arcs are installed on top and agrofiber is pulled. So that the grapes do not ripen, the entrance and exit are left open. They are closed when the temperature drops to -15 ° C. In addition, snow is thrown on the bushes in winter.

Protection against diseases and pests

Variety Platovsky is resistant to oidium, mildew and gray rot. Diseases are fungal in nature and develop with insufficient care, high humidity, thickened plantings.

A white coating appears on the surface of the leaves and stems, which gradually grows, leading to loss of yield and death of the plant.

Important! Subject to agricultural technology, the likelihood of developing diseases on grapes is reduced to a minimum.

To combat diseases, drugs Horus, Antrakol, Ridomil are used. The concentration of substances must comply with the instructions. For preventive purposes, plantings are treated in spring before bud break and in autumn after harvest.

The Platovsky variety is resistant to the most dangerous pest of grapes – phylloxera. The insect enters the plantings with planting material, is carried with water and wind. The spread of the pest can be avoided by growing resistant varieties.

Damage to vineyards is caused by ticks, leafworms, cicadas, and pillowcases. From pests, Actellik, Karbofos, Fufanon are used. If insects are found, the bushes are sprayed with an interval of 10 days.

Reviews of gardeners

Roman, 45 years old, Yuzhnouralsk
A few years ago, I purchased Platovsky grapes according to the description, reviews and photos. On my site I grow varieties Aleshenkin and Talisman. Platovsky matures before anyone else. Although the variety is technical, the whole family loves the berries for their sweet taste. On the shoots I leave 2 bunches of grapes. To make the berries ripen faster, I cut off the leaves above them. Platovsky is a productive variety that tolerates unstable weather and winter frosts well.

Several grape bushes of unknown origin grew on the site. I determined that it was Platovsky grapes according to the description of the variety and photo. Despite the sweet taste, the berries do not attract wasps. The bushes are medium tall, the vine ripens earlier than most other varieties. The variety is very productive, I get grape juice from it. Although the variety is technical, the wine produced from it is mediocre.
