Grapes Italy – variety

Grapes Italy – variety

The grape “Italy” appeared a long time ago. In 1911, an Italian breeder developed a variety that is both transportable and winter storage. Now the brainchild of A. Pirovano is popular not only in Italy, but also in other countries of the world.

The grape has other names as well. It is closer in ecological terms to the varieties of the Black Sea basin, therefore it loves warmth.

Italy grapes love a warm climate

Features of the variety “Italy”:

  • berry flavor: nutmeg with a hint of citron;
  • color: from light green to amber yellow or golden, with a matte shade;
  • berry shape: oval;
  • berry size: large – 3 cm by 2 cm;
  • skin: thickened, but edible;
  • pulp: slightly crispy, but fleshy;
  • bunch size: cone 20 cm by 14 cm;
  • bunch weight: 600 g, up to 2 kg;
  • bunch density: medium-dry;
  • flowers: bisexual;
  • seeds: large – up to 4 pieces;
  • late-ripening variety: 150-160 days;
  • frost resistance: low.

This variety is grown in warm areas where the temperature does not drop below 18 degrees in winter. If temperatures are lower, the grapes must be covered. In winter, it is necessary to leave 10-12 eyes on the vine. The shoots are carefully folded and covered with leaves or straw.

Growing and technological characteristics

Grapes have poor disease resistance. Medium resistant to gray mold and affected by mildew. Can get sick with powdery mildew, since there is almost no immunity to it. Lack of heat affects the harvest badly. The variety is resistant to dry weather.

Characteristics of berries:

  • juice – 79,9%;
  • skin, pulp – 15,2%;
  • combs 3,4%;
  • seeds: 1,5%;
  • sugar content – 14,8−19,1 g per 100 ml;
  • acidity – 6-10 grams per liter.

Berries, when separated from the bunch, withstand a load of 445 grams. And when they are crushed, the load increases to 1820 grams.

In order to get a rich harvest, you need to prune the plants. Bushes grow very quickly. In one year, a young shoot can reach 80% of the length of an adult shoot

The harvest is not always permanent. But in good years – high. In the industry, about 100 berries weigh 550-650 g. Fruiting from 33 to 46% of the shoots, that is, only one third, so the variety does not overload itself and does not need to ration the inflorescences.

The large juicy fruits of Italy table grapes are used fresh. They are also used for marinades, in the preparation of jams and compotes. Warm climate and proper care will help you get a sweet and delicious dessert.
