Grapes Extra: variety description
The “Extra” grape is one of the favorite varieties of many vineyard owners. The reason for this popularity is the excellent presentation and delicate refreshing taste of berries. The variety has all the necessary qualities for storing and transporting crops, and this is highly appreciated by gardeners.
Description of the grape variety “Extra”
The Extra variety was bred by an amateur breeder from Novocherkassk by crossing the Cardinal and Talisman varieties. The result is a harmonious combination of a pleasant exquisite taste and excellent quality. Due to its hardiness, the hybrid successfully bears fruit not only in the southern regions, but also in the central part of Russia. You can see what the Extra grape variety looks like in the photo.
Vineyard owners point out only one drawback of this variety – the different-sized berries. On one bunch, both large and medium-sized and small specimens grow
The bushes of the plant are powerful, vigorous, five-lobed leaves of saturated green color. The flowers of the variety are bisexual, so the gardener has no reason to worry about the pollination of the grapes. The berries are slightly elongated; as they ripen, they can acquire a golden hue. On the palate, the fruits have a nutmeg aroma and a slight sourness.
Characteristics of the “Extra” grape variety
The “Extra” variety is distinguished by its early ripening period; for full ripening, the berries take from 90 to 110 days. Another important advantage of grapes is its high yield: up to 20 kg of berries can be harvested from one bush per season. However, in order to avoid overloading the shoots, it is necessary to carry out rationing of the crop.
Other characteristics of the variety:
- the weight of the bunch is 500-700 g, under the most favorable conditions the weight can reach 1,5 kg;
- berry weight – 7-10 g;
- sugar content – 16%;
- fruit acidity level – 6 g / l;
- frost resistance – up to –25 ° C.
The fruits have excellent keeping quality, which makes it possible to transport berries over long distances. Vines of the “Extra” variety are quite resistant to most diseases of fruit and berry plants, but can be susceptible to phylloxera infection. To avoid this, timely treatment of the bushes with special chemicals is recommended.
According to experts, this variety is one of the best among early-ripening grape varieties. By following the basic recommendations for planting and caring for grapes, you can enjoy the amazing taste of Extra berries.
