Grape Senator: Variety
The Senator grape has two varieties. One was bred by E.G. Pavlovsky, the other – A.V. Burdak. Both varieties are popular with amateurs due to their taste, high yield and good survival rate in different regions.
Grape variety “Senator” E.G. Pavlovsky
This variety was bred in the process of crossing the grapes “Maradona” and “Gift of Zaporozhye”. Shows high resistance to viruses, which is what the breeder wanted to achieve. Also shows indifference to it wasps, although it tastes sweet.
Senator grapes are well transported over long distances
The hybrid should be planted in a bright, wind-protected place. He loves light and fertile soil. Yields may vary depending on the region of growth and growing conditions.
Distinctive features:
- pink-red large berries with different shades of oval shape;
- berry weight – up to 18 grams;
- fleshy pulp;
- the skin is thin;
- harmonious sweet-sour nutmeg taste;
- the number of seeds depends on the region where the grapes are grown, usually 2-3 pieces;
- weight of grapes: from 750 to 1500 g;
- the density of berries is high, sometimes overestimated;
- flowers of both sexes;
- ripening period early-medium: 125-135 days, up to 140 days in cold regions.
The grapes are well transported over long distances. The berries retain their presentation, but are afraid of moisture. From its excess, it can crack and rot.
The Pavlovsky variety has high frost resistance. At temperatures below -23 degrees, the vine must be removed and covered, first placing the poison for the rodents.
Grapes have a high resistance to fungal diseases. But for prevention, it is necessary to spray with fungicides before flowering, in the presence of 3-5 leaves.
The hybrid is bred by crossing the grapes “Arkady” and “Talisman”. It appeared in Ukraine in 2016, so it has been less studied and is still subject to testing.
What makes a hybrid different:
- the color of the berries is milky white, sometimes with a yellow tint;
- their weight – up to 20 grams;
- brush weight – up to 1500 g;
- berries are sweet, with a distant nutmeg flavor;
- early ripening period – up to 120 days;
- the type of flowers is female, therefore, grapes of the male type or bisexual should grow next to it.
The variety is frost-resistant and resistant to many diseases. Not afraid of some insects.
Both Senator grapes appeared not so long ago. Therefore, cuttings for propagation must be purchased from trusted organizations from breeders who are engaged in breeding hybrids.
