Grape processing: iron vitriol
The treatment of grapes with iron sulfate is necessary for the control of pests and fungi, as well as as a fertilizer. This procedure must be carried out in spring and autumn. But, before moving on to specific actions, you should understand the differences in processing at different times of the year.
Spring processing of grapes
The first treatment is carried out in March, before the appearance of the kidneys. Spraying with the composition will create additional protection against spring temperature extremes, help cope with lichens and mosses, and also eliminate iron deficiency. If during processing a larger amount of the composition is used, then the development of the kidneys can be stopped for up to two weeks.
To properly carry out the event, you must adhere to the following algorithm:
- Mix 50 grams of ferrous sulfate in a bucket of water.
- Remove covering material from the bushes.
- Clear the area of weeds and fallen leaves.
- Thoroughly treat the entire plant, soil and covering material with iron sulfate.
- Cover the grapes.
To achieve the best result, the procedure must be repeated several more times.
Grape processing in autumn
Iron vitriol perfectly disinfects wounds after pruning, and also destroys spores of fungi and pests that are going to overwinter on the shoots. It creates additional protection for the grapes from the cold. Before the event, it is important to clarify the weather forecast for the next three days, since the rain will easily wash away the iron vitriol from the surface of the vine, and all efforts will be in vain.
When processing grapes in the fall, follow the algorithm:
- Remove all weeds.
- Prune diseased and dry shoots.
- Mix 300 grams of ferrous sulfate in a bucket of water.
- Thoroughly process the entire plant and soil.
Cover the grapes for the winter if they are thermophilic varieties.
Some gardeners use a very concentrated composition to achieve a greater effect from the treatment. This should not be done in any case, since too much intake of the substance can harm the grapes.
It is important to remember that only warm water must be used for breeding. Store the opened pack in the dark and dry
Iron sulfate is a versatile substance that helps the plant cope with many problems. Therefore, if grapes grow on your site, be sure to use this tool.
