Grape Lily
The Lily of the Valley grape is a young but already popular variety. Today, its characteristics are being actively studied and tested in practice, but it already says a lot about future yield and disease resistance.
Grape variety “Lily of the valley” – description and characteristics
The hybrid form was bred by the famous winegrower V. Zagorulko by crossing the varieties “Radiant Kishmish” and “Talisman”. The plant is early-medium ripening, powerful, with large berries of a lemon-yellow hue.
The bunch is elongated, conical, loose. It remains on the bushes for a long time. The variety has an amazing aroma with notes of lily of the valley and honey acacia, good taste and is in constant demand among customers. Characteristics of the Lily of the Valley variety:
- The flower is bisexual. The culture does not require an additional pollinator;
- Ripens in 130-135 days, around late August – early September;
- The pulp is sweet, fleshy and juicy. The sugar content is 20-21%, the acidity is 6-7 g / l;
- Moderate frost resistance. Without shelter it can withstand up to –21 ° C, with shelter – up to –28-30 ° C;
- Resistance to specific diseases is average, does not exceed 3,5 points.
In a cool place, the harvest is stored until the spring of next year, without losing nutmeg and notes of lily of the valley. The yield of the variety is still being studied, since statistics on mature bushes have not yet been accumulated, but everything promises high rates.
Pros and cons of Lily of the Valley grapes
Today, the form is actively cultivated in areas with a warm mild climate – in Ukraine, in the southern regions of Russia, in Moldova. In the middle and northern regions, the variety has not yet been tested, so there is no reliable data.
At the moment, the culture has proven the following positive qualities:
- Productivity does not depend on weather conditions and the presence of pollinators;
- The decorativeness of the bushes;
- Great berry taste;
- Duration of storage of signal bunches;
- Ease of propagation by seedlings and cuttings;
- Undemanding care.
The disadvantages of the culture include low resistance to powdery mildew and powdery mildew, although the variety is immune to other species diseases.
The limited zoning of grapes does not add any advantages either. Perhaps in the future there will be positive feedback on the cultivation of the form in areas with a temperate and cold climate, but so far they are not.
The Lily of the Valley variety is ideal for beginner gardeners. It can be grown both for consumption and for decorating the site. In any case, the hybrid is capable of presenting many pleasant surprises in the future.
