grape jaguar

Variety Jaguar refers to the hybrid form of grapes. It is characterized by a fast ripening period of 104-115 days, tallness, decent yield. Berries can be picked in the first half of August.

Description of the Jaguar grape variety (photo):

  • the bunch has a mass of 700-1500 g, forms a cylindrical shape, has an average density;
  • large berries of an elongated shape (as in the photo), with seeds, weight 13-16 g, red-violet color, the pulp has a harmonious sweet and sour taste.

Planting of seedlings

Jaguar grapes do not grow well in shady areas. Therefore, to create a vineyard, it is preferable to opt for a sunny and windy place. The best choice is the south side of the building or structure (house, dense fence). Since the plant is planted for many years, it is necessary to choose a site for the vineyard thoughtfully. A seedling is planted in the spring, and the place is prepared in advance – a week or two before planting.

Before planting seedlings, it is necessary to dig a trench to a depth of about 55-60 cm. The orientation for the pit is north-south. Thanks to this, in the future, the Jaguar grapes will be evenly lit throughout the day. The length of the pit is calculated based on the number of bushes, since plants are planted every 1,5-2 m. If it is planned to plant seedlings in several short rows, then strips of no more than two meters are left for the aisle.

At the same time, a trellis is being built next to the pit. As a building material, it is best to use metal pipes 2-2,5 m long and wire. The base pipes are driven in along the trench every 2 meters. A wire is fixed along the pit in several rows. Moreover, the bottom row is located at a distance of approximately 40 cm from the ground. The next wire is pulled every 35-40 cm. It is recommended to fix three to four rows. Fixing the wire should be given special attention, as the wire can bend or move out under the weight of grapes.

Important! Only one variety of grapes can be planted in one row, as different varieties may need special care.

Before planting the Jaguar seedlings, a nutrient mixture is poured onto the bottom of the pit, calculated as a bucket of the mixture per meter of trench. Fertilizer is prepared in advance: a bucket of humus is mixed with 60-80 g of superphosphate and 40-50 g of potassium chloride.

Jaguar grape seedlings are lowered into a pit and buried, after carefully straightening all the roots. The final stage of planting is abundant watering of seedlings.

Vine Formation

Pruning of Jaguar grapes is done the next year after planting. To form the correct shape of the bush, only the central shoot and two side shoots are left. Moreover, the central branch is fixed on the trellis vertically, and the side branches – horizontally. Later, five or six shoots are left on the horizontal branches, which are fixed vertically on the trellis.

The first grapes can be enjoyed three years after planting a seedling of the Jaguar variety.

Vertical vines are cut at a level of approximately 1,4-1,5 m. It is recommended to choose the cutting height individually – it should be comfortable to take care of the grapes. Young shoots should be removed regularly – Jaguar grapes should not be allowed to thicken.

Reproduction of grapes

For breeding vines, it must be borne in mind that the vegetative method is most often used. Cuttings of the Jaguar variety are cut in advance in the fall and dug in with earth for the winter. Grape cuttings are planted in spring.

Important! Before planting seedlings, it is necessary to scratch with a file that part of the cutting that will be buried. This technique is used to form a root embryo in a seedling.

Preparing for the winter period

It is advisable to dig the soil under the vine – in this case, the moisture will be better absorbed and the plant will not freeze much. In autumn, it is also advised to prune the vines. Green shoots and fruiting vines are cut off.

Jaguar grapes are considered frost-resistant, able to withstand frost down to -20˚ C. Therefore, in the southern and middle regions, you can not specifically cover it. It is enough to carefully remove the vines from the trellis, tie and tilt to the ground. To prevent the vines from straightening, they are pinned to the ground.

In more northern regions, it is recommended to make additional shelter – branches, film are placed under the connected vines. And from above, Jaguar grapes are covered with any “warm” material – sawdust, boards, straw mats.

properly cover the grape bush for the winter

Important! In order not to freeze the roots of young Jaguar seedlings, the near-trunk area is covered with earth by about 15 cm. The covering roller is formed low and wide.

Engaging in viticulture is very exciting, you just need a little patience and diligence. And a large variety of varieties allows you to choose grapes that are suitable for growing conditions and taste.

Jaguar grapes match the description. Sweet berries with a pleasant taste, I did not specifically cover them for the winter.

Was dissatisfied with the Jaguar variety. Last year, the leaves were affected by mildew (although it must be admitted that there was a lot of rain in August-September). This year the first “signals” appeared – left two bunches. Clusters of a dense cylindrical shape formed and the berries began to burst and collect a lot of wasps.

Grapes Jaguar disappointed. The berries burst after the rains, and I did not catch an interesting aftertaste – neither nutmeg nor varietal.
