Granular pharyngitis in adults rarely occurs as a separate disease and most often occurs accompanied by other diseases of the nasopharynx. Granular pharyngitis occurs as a result of an untreated acute form of the disease, due to a decrease in immunity, due to the constant action of irritating factors, such as tobacco smoke or polluted dusty air.
Symptoms of granulosa pharyngitis in adults
Often, granular pharyngitis in adults resembles acute tonsillitis (tonsillitis) in symptoms, so in no case should you self-medicate, but consult a doctor who will conduct a thorough examination and take a swab for sowing. The main symptom characteristic of granulosa pharyngitis is bright red nodules (granules) on the back of the larynx and a strong cough.
- Paroxysmal cough;
- Perspiration and discomfort of a foreign object in the throat;
- Accumulation of mucus in the throat;
- Pain when swallowing or raising your voice;
- The larynx acquires a reddish color, its surface is edematous and hyperemic;
- Bright red nodules (granules) form on the mucosa.
Treatment of granulosa pharyngitis
– There is no specific therapy for granulosa pharyngitis. It is worth noting that granulosa pharyngitis is most often a manifestation of another disease, so the main treatment is to eliminate its cause. With an exacerbation of the disease, the use of antiseptics in the form of dragees, lozenges, aerosols, as well as inhalations with warm mineral water or decoctions of chamomile and sage gives a positive effect, – says Otorhinolaryngologist Rimma Pestova. – A thermally and mechanically sparing diet is recommended, that is, it is necessary to exclude hot, cold, spicy, etc.
Antiseptic sprays and solutions for gargling help relieve inflammation, pain and perspiration: Ingalipt, Kameton, Miramistin, Rotokan, as well as Faringosept, Septolete, Strepsils lozenges and lozenges for resorption. To increase immunity, the doctor will prescribe a course of multivitamins and immunostimulants.
A good effect in the treatment of granulosa pharyngitis is provided by physiotherapy – electrophoresis with drugs, ultrasound, inhalation with a nebulizer, UHF. The main condition is the absence of high temperature and purulent plaque in the throat. During exacerbations, any warming is prohibited.
To relieve a painful cough with thick sputum, the doctor may prescribe mucolytics: Mukaltin, Lazolvan, Acetylstein.
Also a necessary condition for recovery is the elimination of the causes of granular pharyngitis: treatment of existing inflammatory diseases of the nasopharynx, caries and gastrointestinal diseases, giving up cigarettes and alcohol, using a mask or respirator when working in hazardous industries.
– Surgical treatment of granulosa pharyngitis is rarely resorted to: large granules can be evaporated with a laser, or subjected to cryotherapy; sometimes palatine tonsils and carious teeth are removed if they are a source of inflammation, says Otorhinolaryngologist Rimma Pestova.
What antibiotics can be used for granulosa pharyngitis?
Usually, treatment of granulosa pharyngitis in adults does not require antibiotics.
– In rare cases, the doctor prescribes systemic antibiotic therapy, for example, if pharyngitis has developed due to gastritis caused by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. The necessary combination of drugs is prescribed by gastroenterologists, – clarifies otolaryngologist Rimma Pestova.
Folk remedies
Folk remedies will also help relieve the unpleasant symptoms of granular pharyngitis, relieve pain and perspiration. The main thing to remember is that they should be used only in combination with drug treatment and with the consent of the doctor.
For rinsing an inflamed throat, a decoction of sage will do well. To do this, pour a tablespoon of dried sage leaves with a glass of boiling water and leave for 5 minutes, then strain and cool slightly. Gargle with warm decoction 4-5 times a day. Sage inhalation relieves perspiration and dry cough well. In the decoction, you can add 5-6 drops of chamomile extract (sold in any pharmacy), known for its antiseptic and healing properties, or dilute in a 1: 1 ratio with St. John’s wort.
For rinsing, you can also use a decoction of burdock, which has established itself as an anti-inflammatory and restorative remedy of traditional medicine. To prepare 4 tablespoons of burdock leaves, pour 2 cups of water and boil (but do not boil) for 10 minutes. Then strain the broth and cool to room temperature; you can rinse 3-4 times a day.
Inhalations on medicinal herbs help to relieve perspiration and pain: linden flowers, chamomile, bay leaf, you can add a few drops of essential oils of juniper, fir and rosemary.
Prevention at home
Prevention of granulosa pharyngitis in adults is, first of all, the timely treatment of acute pharyngitis and other inflammatory diseases of the nasopharynx. This includes not only rhinitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, but also caries, as well as gastrointestinal diseases. The microclimate in the apartment is of great importance: dry, dusty air contributes to the development of inflammation, so regularly ventilate the rooms, install a humidifier and do wet cleaning more often.
Prevention of many diseases, including granulosa pharyngitis, is a healthy lifestyle. Give up tobacco products and alcohol that irritate the mucous membranes, walk more often in the fresh air, do physical exercises and accustom yourself to hardening, for example, a contrast shower and dousing with cool water. This will help strengthen the immune system.
You will be surprised, but a proper balanced diet will help prevent many diseases of the pharynx. Limit spicy, salty, too hot or cold foods, as they can irritate or injure delicate mucous membranes. But the amount of vegetables, fruits and greens needs to be increased – this is a storehouse of vitamins and useful trace elements.
